Being Vain

I am 18.5 weeks pregnant and abount two weeks ago, I was feeling so depressed and ugly, you know worrying about dying my hair so I had grays all over the place, I was braking out, and of course just feeling unattractive. I did some reading and felt that it may be OK to dye my hair and so I went ahead and did that but in my pampering, I decided that I also needed to bleach the hair above my upper lip cause it seemed to be looking dark, I left it on for like 5 minutes and then started feeling all paranoid about the fumes (hadnt really been thinking about the fumes) so I washed it off. Anyone read anything about bleaching, am hoping 5 minutes wouldnt be enough to do anything horrible and am feeling kinda dumb for doing it!

Did the fumes bother you? My doctor once told me that if it's strong enough to bother you, then it's not a good idea for the baby. Otherwise, be careful, and moderation. (I think I was talking with her about using bleach for household cleaning.)

I have a lot of grey hair too and I've just bought a low-ammonia hair dye to do myself. and it only take 20mins to develope which is pretty good too as the ammonia ones usually take 45. :-)

THE WAY I LOOK AT IS EVERYONE SAYS THAT IT IS PERFECTALLY OK TO CLEAN WITH CLEANING PRODUCTS AND THAT THERE IS NO STUDYS AGAINST IT, SO WITH THAT SAID MY DR SAYS THAT AS LONG AS ITS NOT OVER POWERING ME NOT TO WORRY.

The only thing I ever heard was to not regularily use harsh cleaning chemicals (ammonia, bleach etc.) while pregnant. The facial bleach can be harmful I think if you use it all the time. Once or twice shouldn'tt harm the baby according to what I have read. Some say stay away from hair dyes, some say it's okay. I would check with your doctor to be sure. I have not done my regular beauty routine since I have been pregnant (17 weeks). I plan on checking with my doctor about using caffeine containing cellulite cream my next visit. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry about it. The nurse that teaches my prenatal cla__s mentioned that there is no danger in dying or perming your hair and that smells more (and for longer) than hair bleach. I used to use the Jolen hair bleach for my upper lip too but recently switched to a facial depilatory cream by nair. It works really well (doesn't grow back coarser) and smells floral rather than chemical. If you're really concerned about the fumes, maybe you could switch to a different product (or wax if you're brave...my doctor says waxing is perfectly safe throughout pregnancy). Don't feel guilty about wanting to look and feel like a woman during your pregnancy. It's not about being vain, it's about taking care of yourself (even if it's just psychological). Hope this helps.
