HI, I am 25 weeks and I am wondering when did everyone else start feeling contractions. Sometimes I get a tightening or cramping feeling. Is this contractions?

I did with my last pregnancy, i think its mostly your cervix getting ready (takes a long time) and braxton hicks.I went over 40 weeks by the way.Good Luck!

I'm 23 weeks and I get contractions only in the lower pelvis 2-3 times a day mostly at night or when I get stressed out at work. Feels like menstrual cramps or like a sudden urge to go to the bathroom.

i had an u/s done at 11 weeks, and had a contraction during it. The dr. said it was normal to have them during the whole pregnancy. It happens whether you feel it or not. I guess the further along you are, the more likely you'll feel them, but he said they are pretty regular through the entire pregnancy.

Hey, I'm Stephanie. I started having that tightening feeling at 14 weeks with my daughter. My doctor put me on procardia to stop the contractions. It helped but I had my daughter at 26 weeks anyway! I had a placental abruption, 100 %. She was 2lbs. 9 oz. She had a hemmorhage in her brain and a stroke at birth. She is now 5 and walking and talking. The doctors gave her a 95% chance of being a vegtable. She's a miracle. She is also very smart. Now I am pregnant again and scared because I am only 11 weeks and already feeling that tightening feeling? My doctor tells me it is normal but that is also what they told me last time. Does anyone know if their is anything you can do to stop them? Would drinking extra water help?

wow Stephanie, thats a miracle!! I am not a doctor, but from what I have read I agree. You probably should be on bedrest and drink a lot. Wonder why your dr hasnt prescribed bedrest? I am so happy your daughter is okay, wow.... what a sad story with a happy ending!!!

Stephanie has the doctor checked for funneling or cervix shortening? They can check for this on an internal ultrasound and is a great indicator of pre term labor. So glad that your daughter is doing well.

Stephanie - - I had a very similar experience. I was 26 weeks and had a placenta abruption and my son was 2 lbs 4 ozs. He was very sick but is soooo healthy now. He will be 3 on 8-1 - his was due 10/31. It was a very scarey experience and I am so worried it will happen again. When I was pregnant last time I would have what felt like a ball on my right side (in between my ribs and hip). I always thought that it was braxton hicks. It wasn't very painfull (don't get me wrong, it hurt but not terrible). I don't know what is normal contractions and what isn't, I was always under the impression that they were just part of being pregnant, but now I worry about everything soooooo don't know what to say about what is normal and what isn't. Stephanie, are you considered high risk? Please let me know, it would be nice to have someone to compare notes with. Thanks and sorry was such a long post.

I'm 36 weeks and had a placenta abruption with my las child now I have a placental previa with this one and scared to death that I can have another abruption while at home and the baby could die but my dr. says that there is nothing that can be done and he wont do my c-section til 38 weeks so I have to lie in bed for the next 2 weeks scared to death that the baby could die and wondering why the dr. doesnt think that there comes a point where it is safer on the outside for the baby rather than the inside.
