CRAMPING RELIEF

I'm 23wks and have finally realized why everyone says pregnancy is uncomfortable:) Anyone know how to relieve the awful night time leg cramps? Stretching does not help....it's getting worse. And also, the horrible cramping below ur belly is just the long ligaments stretching out right? It feels like the worst type of menstrual cramping and last for up to 20+ mins. Sometimes it's so bad I have to sit down and concentrate on breathing til it passes. These aren't the Braxton Hicks right? What do they feel like and when do they come?

Increase your calcium and pota__sium and it should help w/ the leg cramps. Some cramping below and along the belly probably is just the round ligaments stretching (round ligs, generally pull along the edges/sides to the pelvis. Kind of along your underwear line and in a a bit, from the groin up to the edge of the hip area). However, having to breath through it doesn't really sound like lig pain. You could be experiencing BH's but if that is the case you should be able to feel your stomach getting hard (although sometimes a BH doesn't contract the whole stomach parts at least should get really hard). BH's also don't really feel like menstrual cramps -at lest mine never have, although mine have always been quite uncomfortable. They can be bad enough to have to sit and breath through, and while they can occur for long periods of time, one contraction should not be continuous for more then about a minute. So, if it's lasting strait through for 20+ minutes it's probably not a BH that you are feeling. The BH will come and go over time but you should have a few minute break between each contraction. I would talk to your doc about it at your next appointment (or call and talk to them even sooner if you're next appointment isn't in the next few days). If you have any bleeding or the pain gets worse I'd call Labor and delivery or your doc ASAP. It's probably okay, but obviously your child's health and welfare is not something you want to take chances w/. good luck

By the way I've had a lot of discomfort/pain with the ligaments and muscles stretching, and heat sometimes helps. You could try that. A warm bath or a warm pack may help.

I was getting leg cramps too, so I started taking my vitamins again (I was bad about it) and eating at least one banana every day, plus all the other fruit I eat. The cramping is gone. The pain you are describing as menstrual sounds a lot like the ligament pain I went through around Christmas time. I was paranoid and called the doc, and he said it was musculoskeletal. The pain would come in waves. As long as it's low and around where your underwear would be, then that's most likely what it is. I was in pain for four days or so. It got less and less as each day pa__sed.

Thank you for the advice. I was eating bananas all the time and suddenly stopped last week so that's probably why the leg cramps got worse (didn't even think about it). As for the cramping, there's no bleeding so I think it's probably the ligament pain as I thought. The doctor said the baby is going thru his growth spurt so I'm def making more room:)
