Is an ear infection during pregnancy a common pregnancy symptom or is it something else. This morning when i was getting up i noticed that my ears felt like air was blowing out of them. it was also swelling. I quite didn't know if this was serious enough to go to the emergency room for or if its a common symptom. Does anyone know what this could possibly be

Sinus congestion/mucus production is common in pregnancy, which can lead to pressure build-up and earaches. All that can also lead to infection, so the best thing to do is see if you can take something to relieve the pressure in your sinuses like Sudafed. My doc said Sudafed is fine. The sinus pressure that is deep is hard to feel, unlike the obvious pressure one might feel in their nose. It's that deep pressure that affects the ears and needs to be relieved. On top of sudafed, I would suggest breathing steam over a boiling pot of water for about 10 minutes 2 times a day, and also using the mentholated breathe right strips at night from the drug store. If all that doesn't open you up in a day or two, and/or you are in pain, see the doctor. I'm not an authority on the sinuses, I'm just a long time sufferer from allergies and infections, and have tried every trick in the book. Are you in pain, or just feeling lots of pressure?

While congestion is normal, infections are not. You gotta be careful with those. Back in December, I had a terrible sinus infection which lead to an ear infection. I would definitely get the ear checked out to see if it IS infected. First I was given antibiotic ear drops plus one for pain. When that didn't do the trick enough, I took amoxicillin for 10 days (was about 16 weeks PG then) and it cleared up. Sudafed was also great to clear the pressure I felt in my head (I only needed 1 or 2 pills before it felt better). But again, make sure it's not actually infected. Good luck.
