Got A Surprise Ultrasound Today

Well baby was actually swimming away from the doppler this morning..the doctor said this time period is the hardest to hear the heartbeat because the baby can move away from pressure and has lots of room in the uterus, compared to earlier to later in the pregnancy. So, he ushered us down the hall to do a surprise ultrasound so he could see what the baby's heart rate was. The baby's heart rate has come down to 162 (it was near 170), and it was waving it's little arms and moving around and shaking it's little head. At one point, when the doctor was pushing on it's head, it pushed back, with it's whole power. The doctor said it was pushing it's head and propelling it's arms toward the pressure..when normally they will move away from pressure. So it's a stubborn little thing! It was really neat and I'm excited that I got a "surprise" peek at baby again. My next appointment is a sonogram on July 11th, and I'll get to know the gender of the baby if baby cooperates. Unless of course my Triple Scan blood test (which sucked, had to take 5 vials of blood ick) comes back showing something abnormal with the baby, then they'll probably scedule another, sooner appointment to discuss anything abnormal in the test results. The doctor couldn't believe just HOW active this baby is and says it obviously looks healthy and like all is progressing well. So, I'm 17w3d now! Almost halfway there!

Elizabeth isn't it soo cool when you get to see the baby and all the things they do in there??? they are not bored thats for sure!! lol! I have only had 1 ultrasound and me and my hubby were amazed to see all the little things he was doing (when the tech was pushing he would punch and cick) it was very neat and just to think that they do crazy things like that ALL DAY! but unfortunatly we don't get to see or else we would be laughing all day!

Elizabeth, lucky you. I wish I could see my baby more often. :-) kimj, as far as testing goes, I think we will not have it tested for down syndrome. We will keep it anyway... and though I know it would be helpful to prepare if it did have a problem, I'd rather just not deal with it right now. I hope it's the right decision. I can't wait for our second ultrasound though. The first time it just looked like a little, moving bean.

I'm due on November 14th. Yes the Triple Scan test is a personal decision. I would never terminate my baby but it will be nice for me and my fiance to have that information to prepare for the future if so needed (and the triple scan doesn't tell you if your baby has a problem..just if it is more likely it is..then you can say yay or nay for an amnio).
