HCG

I am just going into my 12th week. Last week I had some blood drawn during an ER follow-up. The dr said that my hCG was high which was a good sign. Today the assistant for my dr called and said that my hCG had gone up and that they need me to come in and get some more blood drawn. Why are they doing this? I thought that the hCG wasn't as important at this stage. Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi dennie - have you had an ultrasound yet? Hcg usually isn't an important indicator at this stage. That being said, usually after the first trimester it levels off, and then starts to decline as the placenta takes over.

I had an ultrasound done in the ER at 7 weeks. We saw the heartbeat and everything. I went in yesterday to get more blood drawn and the nurse that took it said that my hcg rose too high (I believe that is what she said anyway, she wasn't even the nurse for my doctor). Is that bad if it rises too much this late in the game?

im not sure; my friend had this incident & they thought that the placenta wasnt doing its job; so they need more blood & they followed up 2 week checkups for 1 month then the eased off. maybe they are worried teh placenta isnt doing the job it should be
