Help Just Saw A Gestational Sac

Sorry ladies, I know I'm in my 1st trimester but can anyone give me some hope? I went in for my first sono at around 5-6 weeks. All we saw was a gestational sac (dark circle that measured 9 mm) With my daughter, it was transva___al sono and she showed up with a heartbeat and all at this stage. But this time the doc did a transabdominal one, which is why I suspect the reason for not seeing much. But I can't help but wonder if it's really a viable pregnancy. My sister had 3 blighted ovums, so I'm all too familiar with this experience. Have any of you had an abdominal this early and have the same show up, perhaps with a positive ending?

Bellas, I had a transvag sonagram at 5wks2dys (due to spotting) and all we saw was a gestational sac with no yolk or fetal pole. I went back exactly 2 weeks later and we saw our baby with a strong heartbeat. I've talked to many of the midwives and doctors at the practice that I go to and they said that they weren't suprised (although the doctor that I was seeing at that time was super pessimistic esp since I had rising Hcg levels...he kept telling me that I had a strong chance of a blighted ovum). I honestly think its too early and I know that this is really hard to say but try not to worry. It you don't see anything by the latest 8 weeks since your LMP, then I would start worrying. Just try to stay optimistic!!! Good luck!

When i was on the first trimester board i read tons of posts from women who had the same experience as you... with tons of happy endings! At 5 - 6 weeks not everyone sees a heartbeat yet... esp with a transabdominal u/s! I'm surprised the u/s tech didn't do a transv____al one at that point!! I often wish the medical world would be a bit more considerate, knowing how important this is to us. Alot of doctors, nurses, and techs often seem so rushed, too blunt, and too routine. Also, you may be a few days behind in your dates which would make a big difference. Are they rescheduling you for another u/s?? Good luck and let us know how things go! I'm sure everything is fine! :o)

yip hang in there my initial gestation sac, with nothing in it... is now 16 months old... so dont worry... however with my second preg. I had 2 sacs but there is only one baby on the way...(apparently they call this vanishing twin...)

Bellas - its very likely that the u/s was done too early as the hb won't show up til mid 5 weeks - 6 weeks, do you have another one scheduled?

Thank you ladies for your responses. It sure rea__sures me some! I am now 8 weeks and going in to see the doc next monday, I should be 9w then. I don't have another u/s scheduled but I will totally put my doc on the spot for making me so anxious these past couple of weeks, and perhaps he will give me a u/s to calm me down, hehehe. It just really scared me becuse even though I may "feel" pregnant, it may not be viable and the suspense was killing me, so I needed to hear some happy endings.

BELLAS MOM - I went in for a sono because of light spotting at 6 weeks. I was told the same thing. They saw only a gestational sac and the doc said it was probably a blighted ovuma nd to watch for signs of a miscarriage. I freaked out as I went to have hcg and progesterone levels checked. The next day, my levels were low for the gestational age. So, I freaked out for another week waiting to go in for another ultrasound. I went in at a little over 7 weeks. We saw the sac, a fetal pole and a heart beat. But, it was still measuring off by at least two weeks. I went back in the following week for a followup sonogram and first ob appointment. We saw the baby with a heartbeat and it measured right on target. I am now 23 weeks pregnant with a little girl who measures exactly as she is supposed to. I think that doing the sono at any earlier than 8 weeks just stresses us out toooooo much! Good luck. Let us know what you find out.

Bellas, I'm surprised that they didn't even consider scheduling a f/u for you! I would be a mess if I had to wait this long to find out. I wish you the best. Please keep us posted!

I went in for a u/s at 4 weeks 5 days and they told me they saw nothing, nadda no sacs and it upset me but the tech said its normal. I had a u/s two weeks later and it showed a gest. sac, yolk sac, fetal pole, and there it was a nice strong heartbeat, I am currently 22 weeks and 2 days and the wee one is doing great!
