Hi Ladies, I am 17wk. I went to the Dr. yesterday and i have gained 14lbs. Its to much in to shor t time I think. I already was about 25 lbs. over weight before getting pregnant. . I really do eat smart. and healthy( no sodas , no fast foods ocasionally desserts) I admit I munch on fruits. I started swimming and YOga. I try to go walking 3-4 times a week . I have a fear of diabetes later, or complications of weight gain or for the baby. Any suggestions? Or Am I overreacting. any input or commets will help.

Over-reacting :) Normal weight gain is 25-35 lbs ... And that's just a guide. You are not eating junk - you are eating healthy and exercising - I wouldn't put too much stock in total weight gain as much as being healthy and the baby baing healthy. As far as diabetes - that's something your placenta will control, nothing you can really do to prevent it... (I have Gestational diabetes) Relax and if you are concerned, talk to your doctor - that's what they get paid the big bucks for - good luck!!

I think your doctor would tell you if there's a concern and what you need to do to control things. Unless the doctor says something, I wouldn't worry.

I also started out the pregnancy overweight (alot more than 25lbs) and although I have not gained alot so far, only 5 lbs at 21 weeks, my OBGYN told me that as long as I was eating healthy I really should not concern myself over total weight gain if it stays between 25-35 lbs. The extra stress you put on yourself worrying about it is worse for you.
