Is It Micro Waves Or Sound Waves

My dr told me today that the dopplers are micro waves and not sound waves. I was told it was sound waves.....can this be damaging to the fetus if used everyday to check the heart beat? Any advice would be great.....

I've done some online searching, and everywhere I've looked refers to dopplers as producing sound waves. I've heard speculation as to if its harmful to the fetus, but its all been just that - speculation. I've not seen any actual evidence of harm. If you consider how the baby reacts when the doppler or ultrasound is used, I think its pretty obvious that it is aware of (and doesn't always like) the vibrations. I haven't used the fetal monitors... I have been able to hear the baby's heartbeat with a stethoscope for a month or so now. (I'm 27 weeks). Some days I can't find it... it all depends on how the baby is laying at the time. The baby isn't fond of the stethoscope pressing into my belly either - it kicks at it frequently!

I've looked online as well, and I haven't heard anything bad about the dopplers yet? Where did you find the speculation of any possible harm to the fetus? Also, I agree with you that a lot of the websites say that it's sound waves....so that would make it safe.....I guess/

The speculation comes from people I know... like nurses, mothers, anyone interested in the topic, etc. Its not based on any facts that I am aware of. I'm not worrying about it myself... I have to have extra ultrasounds due to a fibroid... and I figure I'm better off with the doctor monitoring goings on in there than I am to avoid ultrasounds or dopplers when there's not enough evidence to say it would be harmful.
