I am 18 weeks 3 days and have influenza. I have had a fever for three days and my kitty Baxter will not leave my side. He even follows me to the bathroom. He talks to me and stays curled up next to me in bed. He is constantly rubbing on me and will even groom my hand. He is being such a love and I couldn't get rid of him if I wanted to. Does anyone else have an animal that for some reason won't stay away?

hi mjv, yes my cat Punkin is the same way. I am 23 weeks today and whenever my husband isn't home (he doesnt like her close to my face) she will jump on my belly while I am laying down and knead the heck out of it then she'll roll over onto my chest and knead my cheeks or whatever is there. She also follows me to the bathroom, to the kitchen and talks to me in meows and chirps throughout the day non-stop. If for some reason I leave the house she is standing there waiting for me right when I walk back in through the front door and then she is weaving through my legs, b___ting her head against my ankles, meowing like crazy and begging for attention. I truly and honestly believe that they know something is 'different' with us and that they can possibly smell the difference in hormones. Cat's are not good with change so I imagine this is one way of coping with this significant change in our bodies and the smell of 'their' territory (our homes). I know several other women who have cats who won't give them the time of day now that they are pregnant but are regularly very loving affectionate animals. Strange little buggers huh? But ya gotta love em and definitely take advantage of the little extra affection you're getting. I especially like the purring head b___ts in the morning when she thinks I have slept in too long because it feels like she is waking me up to care for me, knowing if i DO sleep too long I'll be sick from not eating. Okay there's my novel. Sorry, feeling long winded this morning. TTYL!

My cat was like that with my first pregnancy - and is a bit clingy this time. He sleeps on my body pillow so I can't move, curls up next to my arms or trys to lay on my tummy when I'm on the couch on my laptop. :) What's cool is that he was a total scaredy cat when it came to kids before my dd was born, now he lets her run up to him and pet him or give him toys or feed him. I think it's because she throws food to him from her highchair, which WE don't do. :) But now he's cool with just about any kid that comes over. So funny!

I have two kitties and they are both being super affectionate. I think they actually know that I am not feeling well. I love the purring head b___ts too. Baxter was my first kitty with my husband and he is the prince of the house. Alexander is my other kitty and he is like the mental defective younger brother. It is funny because when he purrs it really sounds like a motor boat, and is so loud. He likes to lay around my neck and get as close to my face as possible. Both the cats are also constantly sniffing at my b___bs. They definitely sense that something is up.

Anyone there?

haha...that's funny about sniffing at the b___bs. Mine hasn't done that but he does like to walk on them and knead them - which doesn't last long cuz it hurts like hell. they are NOT pillows!

I know what you mean, Baxter just jumped up on the bed and one of his paws landed right in the middle of my left nipple... he weighs 13 pounds!!! It hurt like hell.

I have a 7 month old puppy ( a cavalier king charles spaniel ) who is also obsessed with me and follows me around everywhere. granted, dogs are more likely to do this, but what I find so amazing is that while she is a major snuggle bunny, lately she has been climbing on me and curling herself to sleep on my belly instead of next to me or my lap. the more amazing thing, is that when we're sitting or lying down, at least once a day she sticks her head up my shirt and kisses my belly. I am 17 weeks pregnant and she's been doing this for about a month. it's so precious! lastly, we just moved into a new house and are renovating everthing - there are 4 bedrooms and we always keep all the doors upstairs shut b/c they're being worked on and dirty. Ruby is going to the nursery door almost every day and scratching it to death until I let her go in for a minute. she doesn't do that to any of the other rooms. It might be a coincidence, but I defanitely think shes knows!

Gabby, your puppy is so sweet. It is so strange, but, I really believe that animals just know. I am still sick with the flu, and my kitties won't leave my side. This is my third day in bed and I will be here again tomorrow... with my kitties. Animals are amazing sometimes.
