I 'm so torn about this. I'm 16 weeks and last Fri broke out in hives. Got worse on Sun despite taking Benadryl for 3 days. The ER doc and my OB both said it's ok to take this steroid. But I really don't want to bec. I'm concerned about side effects on the baby. It's now Wed. early morning, i can't sleep fr. the hives and severe itching. Took another benadryl again and wish I know what's causing this. I have tried to figure out what I ate for the past few days, etc. I can't think of anything. Has anyone been through this and had to take Medrol(methylprednisone) during pregnancy? I'm desperate for advice, I can't take the itching anymore! Right now the hives are all over my body.

Sorry I can't help you out w/ this one. Just a suggestion though, if you don't want to take anything maybe a topical lotion like calamine (which I'd double check on, but I believe it's safe to use during pregnancy), might help w/ the itching. Also adding baking soda and/or oatmeal to a bath help w/ itching related to chicken pox's. The baking soda also works well for bee stings and mosquito bits too, so maybe those are worth a shot, as I a__sume that both baking soda and oatmeal should be 100% safe. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Sarah. Thank u. I will try the baking soda. I tried the oatmeal but it didn't really help. I got the calamine lotion. I've been applying it like crazy.

Jolie--so did ur hives go away for good? I did the oatmeal bath but I think the water was too warm and it made it worse. I had hives before but not for this long. This started last Friday. I really don't want to take any benadryl or steroids, like the doc wanted me to.

Thea- my sister-in-law suffers from this as well. Actually she has had this before she found out she was prego...I think she is like 8 weeks or so. She found some type of cream online that she is going to use. I will find out what it is called and I will post it back on this forum. How is everything else going? Any luck with the job hunting?

I had a horrrible horrible rash all over my torso, b___sts, etc around 16 weeks as well and the only thing that really worked for me was Eucerin's Calming Creme. The more i scratched the more it would spread. It actually looked like a BAD heat rash cuz from sun poisoning. I saw a BIG difference when i woke up the next morning so i HIGHLY recommend this product. Around 21 weeks, I got another weird rash similar to what i had earlier but localized on my wrist only. it the itchiness was unbearable so I bought aveeno's anti itch cream.. it certainly dried out the rash, but the Eucerin healed my rash. Good luck!!

Hi and thanks to all! I spoke to my doc's a__sistant and I guess we're gonna try loratadine right now(Claritin). I'm so confused about all these drugs! I took a pharmacology in college and I have a book with all the drugs and cla__sifications and apparently claritin is cla__s B. I thought about using ranitidine too bec. that's a histamine blocker used to block acid. I was just frustrated but I feel better today. I couldn't sleep last night again so I took(sigh) another benadryl. I will get the Eucerin calming cream too. Tiramisu - my hives were mainly located the same place were yours were and yeah I'm 16 weeks too. Yours were rashes though. I've been crying for 5 days now fr. scratching. Debbie80 - Hi Debbie. Thanks for asking....I got a job right away, I'm gonna start on April 6- went 2 an interview yesterday and was hired on the spot. It's not gonna be the same pay that I'm used to but it's good enough for now. Also I got a call fr. my boss this morning but I didn't get it. Wonder what it's about.....prob. he's gonna ask me to come back :). A while ago he thought of putting me in the office and not traveling. Please find out the cream that your sister in law is using and pls. let me know. How's everythng w/ u and the baby? I'm doing fine. I'm literally bursting out of my clothes. I need to go maternity clothes shopping really bad. Keep me posted.
