Mole

Hi. I'm 24 weeks and a week or so ago I noticed a "mole" or something like one "down there." There is only one of them and I''m not having any itching or pain with it. Never had one before. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas? Thanks.

Kathy, you probably have what's called a skin tag. I got one "down there" on the right side with my first pregnancy, and it's still there. Now that I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my second, I have one under my left armpit! They are the same color as your skin, and completely harmless. If it doesn't go away after you have your baby, you can have it removed. My mom says you can tie a piece of thread around it, and it will fall off eventually. Hope this helps!

heather- what about a mole that is red? I've had it forever on my chest. And now since I've been pregnant it seems to have gotten slightly bigger and redder. It doesnt harm me at all just wondering. HMNNN!!

Mary, I'm not sure about red moles... Is the mole you're talking about flat or raised? If it's just a red spot that's flat, it's probably not a mole, just broken capillaries. It's normal to have these - I have a few on my arms. They look like red freckles...but just about every spot, freckle and mole you have will grow a little when you're pregnant - it's the hormones that do it! You should show any skin changes to your doctor just to be safe!

if it helps anyone, I have heard a lot that you get more "moley" - either get more or the ones you already had get darker - during pregnancy, but that they do fade afterwards (well, like they say stretch marks do) :)
