Hi Amber, my daughter brought home these lovely little buggies from camp over the summer. Ask your doctor what shampoo is safe for you to use. I will tell you that the key to getting rid of them for good is really good nit picking. You have to be sure that you remove all of the eggs or they will come back. Make sure that all of the bedding and clothing that anyone has been using for the past week or so is washed in really hot water and put in the dryer for at least 1/2 an hour, things that can't be washed can be put into a plastic bag and sealed for about 2 weeks. Be sure to vacuum all the furniture and rugs really good too. It is a ha__sel, but if they come back it is so much worse. You can aslo get good info from the web, just type in head lice. You mentioned using vinager, that is good in helping to remove the nits, they kind of glue to your hair and this helps loosen it. Best of luck to you, I know what you will be going through:(

What I did for myself was use the shampoo, I don't remember which one I used (I used Nixx on the kids) and about 5-7 days later I put olive oil on my head and rubbed it in and then put on a shower cap for about an hour or two. (that is supposed to smother them) I was a freak about it though, I was so scared that they would come back. I re-shampooed the kids about 7-10 days later too and I constantly nit picked them until I was absolutly certain that I got everything ( you need a really fine toothed comb-either from the lice shampoo package or you can even use like a cat's flea comb) As for vacuuming the furniture I used the hose attachment and removed all the cushions and really got inside and did it good. I believe that the vinegar is okay, but if you do have bites on your head it will burn. What I did with the kids was put on the vinegar with a spray bottle and wrapped their heads in a towel for about and hour. Your best bet is to call your doctor and find out which shampoo is best to use. If you don't really have the lice but you want to do something as a precaution I would do the olive oil and shower cap. I can't say that I even saw anything on myself but I was so afraid of re-infestation that I did all this stuff too. Let me know how you make out. Good luck!!

if you have long hair keep it in a poney tail they wont get to you . I am not sure why but it does keep them away

Just use the over the counter lice treatment. Ask your doc if your not sure about using it. Also putting gel or mouse in your hair will prevent them from coming back.

jb i would look into the over the counter stuff as thats what I was giving my daughter and the doc said to stop after one applacation as i was poisiong her

My doctor told me that it is safe to use one of the otc treatments when you are pregnant, I just can't remember which one it is, I know that it is made from a flower extract. If a child is under 2 you should not use any of these though. Also RID makes an all natural lice treatment as I'm sure other brands do too. The key to being rid of the lice though is to make sure that you get of all of the eggs through nit picking or they will hatch and you will have a reinfestation. It is very time consuming and for me it was very stressful and of course I have 2 daughters with long hair, but we got through it. Just remember that the nits attach close to the scalp because they need the warmth from you body to hatch, so look close to the scalp for them, cutting your hair, unless you shave it won't really help. Best of luck.
