Why is that pregnant women are known for craving pickles? I've always loved dill pickles and I eat them more now that I'm pregnant; but why are we known for that? Does anyone have any guesses or anything?

I'm not a big pickle fan but I ate 4 the other day. My sister said that it is the salty taste, I'm not sure.

its the saltiness too. I kinda grew out of pickles didn't even like them on a burger, used to LOVE them. Didn't crave any with my first pregnancy, now I cant get enough of them.

I craved sweet pickles early on. But my thing quickly became cheese. In fact, an uncle suspected I was preggo because of the many times I sent my dh back to the food table for cheese! :) But I did eat about 3 jars of baby gerkins in the second month I was pregnant.... they tasted sooooo good!! Now, I really don't crave them.

I always have liked pickles, here and there. A couple weeks ago I was going through a jar of the polish dill spears in a day to a day and a half. Then I started getting creative and put spray cheese on the pickle and wrapped it in a slice of oscar meyer hard salomie. I use to buy chips by Tim's Cascade and they were dill pickle chips. The best dill pickle chips in the world!!! I still crave them here and there. Now it is hot stuff. Wasabi, horse raddish, tabasco etc. At least we all have something to blame it on.
