Has anyone noticed there nipples darkening? When does this happen if it does? I know some people associate getting darker nipples with having a boy. I was wondering when does this happen if it happens at all and does anyone know why it happens. Thanks.

Keri - I have read that the areola darkens because of the production of melanin during pregnancy. I dont know abt that predicting the gender though. But for me the skin in the areola has been crackling. I am thinking its because of stretching. It itches a lot too. Does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks April Mom. I am also curious if anyone can answer when it happens (for instance at what week during preganacy) if it happens at all.

That can be one of your first pregnancy signs before your missed AF. Mine have gotten a little darker but I still think they will get darker and I'm 16 weeks. From my understanding it can happen at any point in pregnancy. I heard the purpose of this is so the baby can see the nipple easier.

mine didn't get dark until about the 16th week or so...

I'm having a boy and so far my nipples haven't changed. I'll be 20 weeks on Sat. They are kind of flaking though. Good luck!
