Stethoscopes

Well, I thought I was showing very early and gaining far too much weight until I had another prenatal check-up. My doctor told me I was measuring at 26-28 weeks (not 20 weeks). She heard a fetal heartrate with a DeLee Hillis Fetoscope--which she usually can not hear a fetal heart rate with until 26 weeks minimum. Does anyone know if it is possible to hear a fetal heart rate earlier with some stethoscopes?

I am not sure about that, but it may be possible that your dates were wrong and you are 26 weeks...or maybe having twins! Did she do an u/s or jsut measure fundus height? Have you had an u/s at any point yet? Some women's fundus messures large. (the top of uterus that your doc feels form outside.) an u/s would be able to give the baby's mesurements more acuratly. Good luck

I was told by my ob instructor that with fetoscope you can hear the heart rate at 20 weeks.

Roary, please let us know how the U/S goes. I would be curious to see what it shows. Is there any possible way you are farther along?

Yes. I had a miscarriage in mid August and never really had another normal period. So, I am really uncertain about my dates as it is. I will make a point to post about the u/s tomorrow. :)

Well, I am infact 20 weeks and 5 days. We are pretty sure it is a boy. The baby is a pound already, so this explains how big my uterus is. It was so exciting to see. The baby has my mother's high cheekbones and obviously has a large forhead like my husband. He was sucking his thumb at first, then covered his ears. I hope the ultrasonic waves weren't too loud for him. :)
