I found out that I am 9 weeks pregnant. I took one 10mg valium last Saturday and am now extremely worried. Does anyone know if that was enough to cause birth defects?

You should be okay. Lots of girls don't find know they're pregnant early on and do worse. Just let your dr know. I diidn't know right away and had one night of crazy partying! I told my dr and he sais no worries just don't party anymore. Im 23 weeks now and my babys perfectly healthy-KT

I do know that valium should be avoided while pregnant, and especially in first trimester while baby is developing. It has been shown to be teratogenic and causes birth defects with malformations and later on linked to behavioral problems. I have also been told by my Perinatal doctor, because I was taking meds that were dangerous before I found out, that if you make it past the first trimester after having taken the med, then the baby should most likely be okay if you took the med really early on. He said the body would have caused a miscarriaged if something was wrong with the baby due to outside influences. He was right with me. I am now 24 weeks and the ultrasound showed a normal formed baby with all organs and limbs intact and doing quite well. I was around eight weeks when I found out and when I first went to the Dr. I hope that makes you feel better.

I take a low dose (.5 a day) of klonopin. This scared me at first but, my dr. a__sured me that Im fine if I dont go any higher then .5 a day.

I think that you both are okay however it's something I would be concerned about. talk to you dr about it and they will probably tell you it isn't anything to worry about as long as you don't continue use
