It's.... different. Different people describe it in different ways because no one really knows how to explain how it feels. More than likely though once you feel it you will know what's up without a doubt. There will be a period where you just can't tell if it's your imagination or what, but once the baby gets strong enough that's when you feel the first real kick. On average the first kick is felt around 18-20 weeks, but some feel it sooner and others later... it depends a lot on your body type and whether you're a first time mother (first timers are most likely to feel it and not realize that's what they're feeling). I'm 16 weeks myself and I've already felt the first kick, but if I had felt it at any other time than what I did I may have not realized that was what I was feeling (the baby kicked me awake one night). What I can suggest doing that might help you find out if you're feeling the baby move or not is just laying on your back as still as you can be and seeing if you feel anything "move" that you can't explain (understandably you want to do this at a time you're not having any tummy issues!). Also timing... do you feel something weird only at certain times of the day? The baby actually does have a schedule on when it moves the most. :)

WELL THE WAY I DESCRIBE IT IS LIKE WHEN YOUR IN A POOL AND YOU FEEL SOMETHING OR SOMEONE SWIM PAST YOU THATS THE FIRST TIME MOVEMENT AS YOU GO INTO THE THIRD TRIMESTER THEY GET STRONGER ITS LIKE AS IF THE BABY IS PLAYING GOLF INSIDE DEPENDS ON HOW ACTIVE HE/SHE IS /GOODLUCK

It really does feel like rumbling gas. If you have ever had gas and felt it move inside your tummy that is what it feels like at first. If this is your first you probably won't notice anything until 18 - 20 weeks. I am on my second and I didn't start feeling anything until about 19 weeks this time. It was later for my first. I am 21 weeks today and I can actually see the baby kick when I am watching my belly from the outside. Once it starts it just gets harder every day and you will notice it a lot more.

Ask 100 different women and you'll get 100 different answers. The only thing I can say is that when you feel it, you will know. The kicks get stronger and more frequent as time goes by. In the beginning you may wonder if it was a gas bubble or the baby. You will learn the difference though. Promise.

My first son is now 3 and I remember so vividly what it felt like and I felt him at 18 weeks. It felt like the pillsbury dough boy poking your stomach very lightly from the inside out.

Hiya, the only way I can describe it is, its like little taps, as if something is hitting you lightly on the inside (which is what is happening) the taps increase in quant_ty and strength as the weeks go by! I didnt really feel b___terflies or flutters in the early weeks, I didnt feel my first movement till about week 23 as I have a front lying placenta which acts like a pillow for my baby to kick and punch!

I have to agree with all of the ladies here that it is definately different for everyone and every pregnancy. All I can tell you is when you feel your baby move for the first time, you will know it...trust me.

The way I describe it is like when you can feel your pulse under your skin really hard, ind of like that. At least for me anyway.

At 16-17 weeks with my daughter I could put my hand on my stomach and physically feel her kick my hand. I could also see my stomach move.
