When Would DR CHANGE The EDD

I've heard of some people's due dates being changed after an U/S. What warrants this? Does the baby have to measure a certain amount of time ahead of your current due date?

They usually do it prior to or at 13 weeks when they feel the height of the fundus (top of the uterus) and by the way the baby looks on the ultrasound. Their development changes so drastically in the beginning it is a lot easier to tell then.

haha I have been given like 4 different EDD by the different u/s techs. They go by the size of the baby at the time but remember we all grow differently and spurts here and there may change it. I just stick with the first date I was given. haha

My dr told me that ultrasounds are very accurate in dating the pregnancy during the first tri. If the date the u/s gives you in more than a week different than your stated dates, she usually goes with the ultrasound. But once I had thay u/s, she said my date was now "set in stone" as ultrasounds are not as accurate later on b/c all babies grow at different rates past week 13.

Well then i guess my date won't change then huh? because i won't even be having my first ultrasound until 19 weeks?? is my a__sumption correct?? I just can't wait to see the little person on the screen...

It is sooo awesome to see the baby. What made me cry though was hearing the heartbeat. It's sooooo amazing you won't be able to stand it. Lol.

I'm very fortunate that I work in a hospital and can see my little man anytime I want to, but it's still just as amazing every time I see it. It's just crazy to believe there is really a person in there just hanging out. And hearing the hb......omg, amazing!!!

I've gotten to hear the heartbeat the last two appts... except for my last appt i was so scared because she had a hard time finding the heartbeat.. i started to get really worried but she said my placenta was on top and she had to go around it to get a better listen of the heartbeat... then when we heard it i bout cried just because i had been so worried... i can't imagine what seeing the little one is actually going to feel like... but i'm going right away in the morning!!! Anyone have a time machine? travel a few weeks into the future... lol...

OK thanks girls. I guess my due date will NOT be changed then. I had an U/S at about 6 1/2 weeks to determine EDD and they measured the fetal pole (I think it was just a pole at the time) and gave me that due date. I thought I was a week or two beyond that but I guess no chance of that being the case. Just scared I'm going to have another 9 lb-er. My first son was 9 lbs my second was 7 lb 13 oz but with my second I had an u/s toward the end of my first tri and my due date was moved up a week and a half. Oh well...thanks for the answers!
