Just wondering, I know that pregnant women shouldn't lift anything heavy but I've never been told why. Anyone?

I'm not sure but I guess it has something to do with the strain on your stomache. I've heard not to lift anything that's over 5lbs. Hope this helps!

Our realtor told us that she lifted hay bales and went into labor at 5 months. Her baby lived 10 hours. The thing is, she didn't normally lift anything like that and was trying to show off. I know I lift over 5 lbs at times but that is pretty normal for me. I know how to lift with my back, too. You want your stomach to relax and stretch and when you strain it you run the risk of your muscles seperating.

You could also rip or tear your placenta when you lift heavy objects.

My doctor said 25 lbs....hmmm...anyways, the key is in bending at the knees and lifting with your knees. 5lbs seems light for me...like pregnant mothers who have to carry their 1-2 year olds...well, it happens all the time and they are a lot heavier than 5 lbs...

from webMDhealth website regarding pregnancy and lifting: 'If you must lift something, do not try to lift anything that is awkward or heavier than 20 pounds. Take a wide stance and bend the knees. Do not lift with knees straight and using waist muscles."
