Hi Folks, my first post here.. Me and my girlfriend have been seeing each other for about 2 or 3 months now, and have had s_x two or three times during that period. Two days ago or so we had s_xual intercourse, using protection. It was going great, until we had finished. I pulled myself out of her and realised the condom had gone. We looked about for it, but couldn't find it. Only a minute later we realised the condom was infact inside her. We're both 17 years old, and not some ned/chav couple who sleep about for fun. We are quite serious about each other and it is pure unlucky that this has happened. The day after having s_x (about 14 hours) we went to our local pharmacist and bought the morning after pill which she took an hour or so later. She (my GF) tells me her next period (i'm not too clued up on this) will be in about 3 weeks, which is when we will find out if the morning after pill has worked? If it hasn't, I suppose it is left to abortion, which we have both sat down and discussed and agreed to, if the worse comes to worse. As you can imagine, we are both quite distraught by the whole situation. It's going to be a long 3 weeks wait. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance, Worried boyfriend!!

Also, I understand that many people try for children and it takes them ages, having s_x unprotected many times, for the female to become pregnant. Could this also help? What I mean is, is there a chance that what has happened may not have affected her in getting pregnant? We are both quite sure we don't want any kids at this moment. (17 years old for crying old loud!) and are really upset that something meant to be a bit of fun has turned out so unlucky for the pair of us. Really, I am looking for some rea__surance to help put our minds at rest a little.

The morning after pill is not completely effective, however it is better than nothing at all. The reason why people who have s_x often are less likely to get pregnant is because the sperm supply is not as strong. In your case having s_x more often would be a bad idea, if that's what you were reffering to, I'm not sure. You already had s_x with the full sperm supply I guess you could say, so the damage is done. I got pregnant on the birth control pill, so nothing is effective one hundred percent. When it is meant to happen it is meant to happen. If your girlfriend was supposed to have her period in 3 weeks then fortunately chances are she was not ovulating, which is when there is an egg waiting to be fertilized. Most woman get pregnant two weeks before their period is due. Basically what I'm trying to say is chances are with your timing and the morning after pill, she is probably not pregnant, but nothing is for sure. The only way to be 100% protected is to not have s_x (not to sound like an advertis____nt or anything), but if the two of you are having s_x then consider taking another form of protection as well. It's always best to use a condom and the birth control pill. Remember that s_x is a huge responsibility and with it can come huge consequences. It's good to know that you are using protection unlike so many young people though. Good luck and do not worry as that may cause her period to be later than normal and cause more worry. Good luck.
