My last AF was Jan. 24th. I just got back from my dr. he gave me 5 pills of medroxyprogesterone (Provera). I should get AF within 10 days of the last pill. I desperately want to get PG. Does anyone have any experience with this pill?

When progesterone levels drop off it starts your period, so by taking the pills you are building up the levels for five days then when you stop the levels drop sharply and you get your period. I haven't taken it but i think i read somewhere that dizziness is a side effect. Good luck with it. Might sound obvious but i take it your doctor ruled out pregnancy as a reason you have not had your period?

Thanks for your help. Yeah, every pregnancy test (including a blood one) has been BFN's. Before being on birth control, I was always irregular so I guess he just wants me to get my AF so i can start ttc again ASAP. Are you in a waiting situation too?

I think we are ALL in a waiting situation... lol... waiting for AF, waiting for 'o' day.... i have just started with progesterone cream so if i have to wait and see if i have succeeded on "o" day... the drop in progesterone is what brings on your period, yours obviously needs to be boosted then dropped off... mine needs to be boosted then kept up so not to have a period... sort of opposite problem of you really... Good luck with it!!

thanks for your help, ladies. after i get AF, my doctor told me i should ovulate about 14 days later...but would this be true even if my periods are irregular? should i still monitor when i ovulate using an OPK? i want this time to be IT. i miscarried in dec. and want to be PG ASAP. if only it were as easy as wishing really hard on :)

Hi Ruby: My dr gave me the same thing. Did not bother to take it but af came on Saturday. It was so depressing. I thought I was pregnant, even though the tests showed BFN. Well it was a cycst I had. keep in touch with me at [email protected] cause I will no longer be on this web site. Take care Ruby

Ruby... generally you ovulate around 14 days BEFORE your next period. If you have a regular cycle this makes it easy.... however if you have long/irregular cycles you wont know when your next one is coming. The time from your first day of period to ovulation can vary a lot, but the time from ovulation to your next period normally stays the same (ie if it is 13 days from O to period one month it will be 13 days the next), it is the time before that varies. Try getting a few packs of opk strips and test from about day 10.... apparently a lot of people here buy them off the internet (cheaper) and report they work well.

thanks mulgajill. that's what i thought...i don't really know why my dr said i would ovulate 14 days later (i guess he forgot that i'm irregular). i am familiar with the ovulation strips. that's actually how i conceived last november. i will definitely be using them this time. are you waiting for AF too?

waiting for af NOT to come on April 8th... i conceived last oct but had m/c december.... and had a positive hcg blood test last month but didn't stick... got my period a few days later... hence the progesterone cream, it is not so much the problem of getting pregnant but Staying that way. Have you started your provera?

i just finished taking my 3rd Provera pill. So then they prescribe Provera not only to get your AF, but also to keep it from coming? I'm sorry, am I understanding it right? It's my first time taking any extra stuff to ttc.

I do not have any experience with provera, but I have irregular periods too. When I wanted to conceive my second child I didn't have a period at all for 2 years. Finally I researched infertility and abnormal periods and found some women take herbal supplements to reggulate their periods. I found something called New Phase, it has natural plant estrogens and progestrogens in it. It also has black cohosh which is a chinese herb used to treat infertility. This pill can be found over the counter in the herb and vitamin section. It is for menopause but after researching this I found women take it to reggulate periods. I took it for 3 months and had a period after not having one for almost 2 1/2 years. After 3 months of having a normal cycle I conceived my 1 1/2 year old son. I would reccommend giving this a try it worked for me.

thank you so much kim. i haven't really been trying long. it took 3 cycles the first time (i miscarried) and now i'm still waiting for another period (hopefully the provera will help) since the m/c. but even though, i haven't been ttc for very long, my husband and i feel it is time so i will definitely look into the pill. thanks for the advice!
