How accurate are blood tests?

me - March 4

i had a blood test done yesterday and it was negative because im not due for af for another week my doctor rescheduled it a week and a half out, in case i was too early to detect the hormones. If you get a screening done it tells how many hcg you have,if over 5 your pregnant..i think thats the best one but i didnt have that one unfortunately. I am experiencing alot of symptoms and dont know why if im not pregnant.

Urine and blood tests are all accurate in that if they detect hCG a pregnancy is confirmed. Quant_tative blood tests are also sensitive, expensive and take several days to process. Qualitative blood tests are not particularly sensitive. Urine tests vary in sensitivity. A controlled review of sensitivity a while back put First Response Early Result at the top of the heap, detecting a level as low as 6.5 miU hCG. False negtives are common because hCG builds up slower in some than others. False positives are rare, but could occur if a test is done very early and an early pregnancy loss occurs at the end of the month.

Grandpa Viv - Quant_tative blood tests are not always expensive or lengthy. I got my results back in less than 8 hours and it was $60 when I looked at my bill, which insurance covered. You always say this about quan. blood tests but it is not true.

I did the blood test on day 24 and got a Negative.. on day 29 I got a positive with the home pregnancy test- the EPT that detects 5 days early.. so dont get discouraged.. your body may need a week or so to build up enough hormone to detect.
