Hello - my af was 2 weeks late and I finally got it today. I am in a horrible amount of non-stop cramping and I just went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was a stringy looking clump about the size of a half-dollar. I normally have heavy periods w/ bad cramping, but I've never had clumps! I thought I might be pregnant until my period started today...now I am scared I may be miscarrying...are there any other signs?

Hi Lyndia, I experienced similar symptoms earlier this week, but I was only 1 day late for AF. I normally don't have cramps during my AF and it normally lasts for 4 - 5 days with medium to heavy flow. But this time was different and it lasted for two days. When AF showed up it was very heavy and I had to change my pad 4 times in one day. I also had some clumps almost everytime I used the bathroom. I think I experience what was called an "inevitable miscarriage". (When bleeding and pain are accompanied by the breaking of membranes (the amniotic sac surrounding the fetus) and the widening of the cervix, the pregnancy is viewed as lost (inevitable miscarriage). Uterine contractions to expel the fetus usually begin soon after these symptoms develop.) They say that this type of miscarriage usual occurs within the first 20 weeks. The common signs of a miscarriage is v____al bleeding, cramps, pain that comes and goes, pain that begins in the small of the back and moves to the lower abdomen, and loss of tissue. If you think you might have had a miscarriage and the cramping persists, you should call your doctor. Good luck!

Thanks Chila! I actually had a blood test yesterday...if this is a miscarriage, will the blood test show up positive? I will definitely call my DR....thanks!

Hi Lyndia, I read that the HCG hormone can stay in a woman's blood at low levels for up to 4 to 6 weeks after a miscarriage. A blood HCG level of 5 IU/L may only 'indicate' that a pregnancy is possible. But it may also indicate that a pregnancy has recently existed (particularly if the woman is bleeding and in the process of miscarrying). If the blood test is repeated in 2 to 3 days and the beta HCG has approximately doubled, then this confirms that the pregnancy is continuing. A beta HCG of at least 25 IU/L is definitely regarded as being a 'positive' pregnancy blood test. If the pregnancy is less than 12 weeks and the levels start to lower, this is fairly indicative that the pregnancy will, or is in the process of miscarrying. I hope your Doctor can give you some clear answers! Baby Dust to you and let me know how you are doing. You can also reply to my other thread "Waiting buddies - May 5th". Take Care
