Antibiotics And Birth Control

hi. i have been taking ortho tri cyclen for a few years. my last period was around april 23. shortly after, i took a 10 day course of antibiotics for an infected wisdom tooth. i took ammoxicilin (500 mg) every six hours. throughout the month, i had unprotected s_x with my bf. i am not expecting my af for 2 or 3 days, but i have been having strange stomach cramps for 5 (or so) days. i also have sore br___ts, frequent urination, i have been queasy, and for some reason i keep getting the feeling that i'm pregnant, although i have never been before, so i don't know what it feels like. i took a hpt, and it was negative, but i think it was too early (?). i have another one, but i am not sure when to test. also, today i have been havign cramps and a little brownish discharge (again, a few days early for af). does anyone have any ideas or experience with antibiotic/bc interaction? i'd appreciate anything you have to contribute. i am 22 and just finishing my degree, wasnt planning to have a baby right now, but itd be a welcome surprise. thanks!

Kate-antibiotics can mess with your birth control. I was on the same pill for 5 years and one month I was on antibiotics didn't think about using a back up and now I have a wonderful, 41/2 year old. You should test, if it is onlly 2 days till your next period get an early response. good luck let me know. if you have other questions you can ask.

I've heard antibiotics will throw off the effects of b/c. From everything I've read, getting discharge a few days before af is expected is a sign of IB...

kate have you tested yet...i hope that you get a welcome surprise. also as an FYI I still bleeding the first 7 months of my pregnncy. I never really missed a period(or what I thought was one)-my MD says because I was still taking bc. I didn't know i was pregnant until I finaly was late(no bleeding) @ 7mos. good luck

i took 2 tests, the first 4 days ago, which was a first response (but prob. too early), and another today, which was supposed to detect when the period is missed. both were negative, but i just have this feeling... ive had a bit more spotting, now its more pink than brown. i was just in the supermarket, and it made me queasy. i have the strangest feeling in my lower abdomen, in between a cramp and a full feeling...it's nothing i've felt before. i'm nervous, but excited too. i know i'm probably thinking about it too much, but it's hard not to. thanks for the responses. i'll keep you posted.

kate - i am in the exact same situation! i am on mircette, and also took a ten day dose of ammoxicilin earlier this month. i'm 6 days late for my period but have been having spotting/light bleeding for the past few days. i haven't tested yet...i wasnt planning to get pregnant, but now that i've been thinking that i might be, i'm nervous to find out i'm not. i'm going to wait a few more days and see if my af ends up showing itself before i test. by the way i'm still in college as well...i'm 20.

wow, nicksmmy, how did you prepare for a baby when you only had 2 months notice?! if you dont mind me asking, how old were you when you had your son? stephanie- are you having any funny feelings or symptoms of pregnancy? how are you feeling about the possibility of being a young mom? thanks

kate I dont mind you asking. I was 23 going on 24 when I got pregnant. honestly I nvr felt any movement, and I know it sounds ridiculous that I didn't know but I was preoccupied by getting married, and I was really busy at work. One night I was laying in bed and my husband had his hand on my stomach and my son kicked. I had started to suspect something, but I was scared. When my husband felt this he jokinly said "i think I felt the baby kick". two days later I tested and it came back +. Went to the dr 2 weeks later and boy was I shocked when they said I was 8 months. as far as preperation...I have a great family and everyone pitched in to help. I took it all in stride. I went to the dr for the 1st time on 9-11, so I felt truly blessed. I delivered a 9 lb 12oz baby via c-section-so yes my son truly feels like a miracle baby. my dr still calls him that, he has a great bond with my son. good luck.(sorry it is so long)

kate - i've been feeling a little sick to my stomach off and on...loss of appet_te, and some cramps, almost like gas...but higher up. i've still been having really slight spotting as well. as far as being a young mom i'm fine with that. i have been with my bf for 2 1/2 years now and i think he would be excited. i have other things i would like to accomplish first...but if this is it than i will be thankful and enjoy the ride! how you feeling about everything? any new updates?

hello again stephanie. i am feeling similar symptoms. i felt really sick yesterday on and off and then got a terrible headache. the stomach cramps are so odd... i am convincing myself that im pregnant because they feel different, and then when they pa__s, i try to convince myself that im not pregnant. i am going back and forth, but either way i will be okay. i've known my bf since we were 17, but we've only been together for a few months. that's scary, but we've been talking about getting married since we first got together because it just feels right. as far as being a mom, i'd be excited and i'm sure it would be wonderful. i am nervous about how i'd tell my very old, very irish, and very catholic parents. my brother already eloped at 22 and broke their hearts. part of me will be relieved if i am not pregnant, but a bigger part of me will be sad if i'm not.
