Anyone Doing The Robotussin Or Green Tea Thing

hey everyone, congrats to all you bfp-ers! I just thought I'd throw out a general question to those of you that have tried to increase fertile cm by using robotussin, green tea, or just otherwise increased fluids. On my first cycle off bc I had ewcm on o, and then the last two I've just had alot of creamy (and not strechy at all) cm around and after o. I'm on cd18 and should o soon but the cm is not great. So I'm increasing fluids with no change so far. Any luck with anything else? Thanks.

I'm interested in the robitussin theory of it "thinning out" the cervical mucous. I actually bought it, (no DH) just guffeisiem (Sp) kind like I read on the internet, but I also have recently read that taking robitussin may cause birth defects...now I'm a little weary of having that darn stuff in my system when I'm ovulating and conceiving, so I don't know....does anyone have any idea if the birth defects issue is a major possibility?

I took all the stuff for ewcm since all I really got was watery during y fertile time. I took Eveing Primrose Oil, robitussin, baby carrots, green tea and grapefuirt juice and got LOTS....but......after I stopped TTC and went back on my diet I started drinking 8 gla__ses of water again and noticed that I previously spent alot of money on things that the water took care of naturally....cause I had more ewcm than ever during my fertile time. So, babydust with whatever you choose!! Linds99, I had no idea about robitussin and birth defects...where did you see that info?

jeanette, I have to agree with you....My doctor told me the same thing. Water is the key!!!

Jeannette- I read it here... http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/cm.html

linds99, robitussin may think out your cervical mucus but it has not be tested and studied for that. I will tell you this...I am pregnant and I was usuing robitussin the week I concieved because I had a bad cough and ended up having the flu....Don't know if it helped or not ..LOL

Emma, I won't dispute the likelihood it does help with cervical mucous, but my question is how big is the chance it causes birth defects???Anyone know more? I wanna try it, but now I am afraid..

thanks Linds

Oh no I have no heard that.....I don't know anything about that and I don't think it should because your not pregnant yet..How can it hurt the baby?

It's actually dextromorphan (DM) that may be linked to clef palate and neural tube defects (I can't find any research on it though). Guiafenesin is an expectoriant, which thins mucous. I've also been finding alot of other stuff like grapefruit, red raspberry, primrose, etc. I think I'll try the robo and drink lots of h2o. I just don't understand why I have so much lotiony cm and not at all strechy, i normally drink tons of water during the day!

linds, have you tried drinking lots of water? Also, evening primrose oil actually creates more cm where robitussin just thins out what you have..but it can take a couple of cycles of regular use to get the full effect. Its also not recommended to take after O, so you may want to research it before taking. But, at any rate, like I said before...water did it for me!

Emma, again my question would be whether the stuff being in my system while conception is taking place could it cause birth defects (how long does the stuff stay in the body and how much becuase I read you are supposed to start taking it on cycle day 5) and I usually ovulate on 20-22 cycle day) ...I wish there was a doctor here who would be able to explain this! lol

linds99 - April 27

Hey Jeannette, yes I drink 2 liters everyday, sometimes more! I am very calculated about drinking water now, and yes, I agree, I have noticed a difference in my "wetness" and I am on only cycle day 6 now...

heart nurse, my cm was very lotiony too, and that is why I was prompted to try the robitussin this time...so it is ok and it won't cause birth defects if it doesn't have the DM stuff in it? thanks for the info...
