Aunt Flow Period As A Person

Just curious does anyone know where the idea of referring to our periods as a person came from? Of course it's just a bodily function that our body does if we have not conceived to clean out the uterus and get ready for the next cycle. Where did the idea of referring to it as a "she" come from? Just curious as it's quite strange when you think about it! I guess it gives us a means to "vent" about not being pregnant cos we can blame "Aunt Flow"!!

I guess it's supposed to be Aunt Flo (like Florence) - but meaning "flow" like you say. A less cra__s way of saying "period" and a subtle way of saying it - "Aunt Flo is coming to visit" nudge nudge wink wink. Then the "she" is a natural progression from there. :P

I'm not sure but when I was young my mom used to refer to it as "her monthly visit from her friend". Well, that and the "curse". LOL

I guess if a guy can call their *thing* a "he" then we can call af a "she" lol....*blush*
