Barrier Methods

I was wondering if many of you have used a diaphragm or cap? Im thinking about switching from hormonal to non. Im having a hard time with bladder infections, and moody issues. Has anyone gotten pregnant while using these?

I think they are the least effective form of birth control. Also the diapram has an a__sociated risk for infections so that wouldn't be a good choice for you. Why not use the condom? I know some guys don't like them but they have always worked for dh and I. I have never become pregnant using them unless I wanted to. Also they lower your risk to infection because they keep the bacteria from entering you. Just a thought.

I wanted to get a diaphragm but my doctor told me they don't make them anymore. Do they? Because bcp make me b___hy and my marriage barely made it through the one month that I tried them. As soon as I stopped taking them, everything was fine. We just used spermicide when we did not want to get pg. My dr told me that spermicide is about 94% effective if you use it correctly. It can be a pain in the b___t though because some of them take 15 minutes to dissolve. And sometimes they cause burning or irritation when you or DH urinate. The best one is called VCF, (v____al contreceptive FILM) they are like little flat squares and you fold it and insert it near the cervix and 15 min later it dissolves. This one has never burned. The VCF (v____al contraceptive FOAM) always burns us. The one called Encare is ok, it leaks a lot but seldom burns and only takes 10 min to dissolve. I've always wondered if using Instead Cups would be effective as a barrier method but the website says no studies have been done.

Thats interesting, thanks. Actually my husband and I both dont like condoms. they smell. And it just doesnt feel the same. Ive been off BC for a week and a half now and I feel really good. I think hormonal BC is just making me tired, depressed, moody, and of course no s_x drive. Ive been enjoying being me. I would be worried about just using spermicide. Im afraid its not as effective. Plus, s_x is messy enough without it. Kimberly, are you using anything right now, or are you and DH trying to concieve?

yeah, sometimes I worry about spermicide not being as effective but I had a problem with IUDs and will not use them and bcp makes me crazy. I think I'd rather be pg than take them. Oh, and I'm sensitive to latex condoms and plus dh does not like them either.

Hmm! How about IUD's? They are expensive first shot, but you save money in the end - and far more reliable than v____al spermicide. Good luck!
