should the hole in/near your cervix be closed when you are pregnant?

I imagine it would be....your body forms a mucous plug when you are pregnant where your hole in your cervix is. I think anyways....anyone else?

Yes it should be closed. The only time it is open is when you are ovulating. Ususally in early pregnancy the cervix is high and soft and closed, but this is not reliable enough to be an early sign. We had one woman post who felt the cervix descend and start becoming hard after ovulation, then go back up and soften as pregnancy established.
