Cycle Length Changes

hi everyone! well my af has come and gone for this month- very light and only for 3 days, which is less than when I was on the pill. I expected it to be longer and heavier. And so that cycle came out at 31 days. Do you find it pretty reliable to start calculating o dates for your new cyclce length coming off the pill? I'm not sure if I should bother with opaks, but I think I might, since I'm going to be smack-dab in the middle of 12h night shifts when I o, as I was last month, and that makes it pretty darn impossible to bd on those days, so think knowing will increase our chances.

My periods also got lighter after coming off the pill, which really surprised me. Before I started taking the pill (about 15 years ago), my periods were always 5 days long. On the pill, they were 3 days long. Now since I've been off the pill, two of them have only been 1 day long! I'm not sure, but maybe it has to do with age (not that I'm that old or anything). My first cycle off the pill was 33 days, the next 31 days, then 29 days, and now they seem to have decided to stay there. I'd use opks if I were you (but then again, I did!). You can buy them super cheap online, so that they end up costing on the order of $0.50 each, and I really think they're worth it. They remove any ambiguity. I especially like them, because my cp and cm don't usually match up exactly with O day, so if I went by them I might get it wrong. Good luck to you! Sorry to hear about AF, by the way...

Hi heart_nurse. When I was on the pill. My AF lasted 3 days-medium/heavy. Now since I been off the pill since last April, it is now 2 to 3 day light to medium. It is now 10mths TTC, I have bought the fertility monitor I help me pinpoint my O day, as my cycles are from 30-36. My cycle did not change after off the pill, what changed was the AF flow and athe amount of days. I used the opk, but it didn't work for me. I understand about the impossiblity of BD, as my husband is on shift work. Thus there were several times, when I was O"ing he was working the night shift :-((( Anyways good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your replies, I think I will get an opak, for peace of mind if nothing else (not that I'd rely on them though). Last month I relied on a 28 day cycle and we probably quit bding a few days too early. In retrospect, I did have ewcm after I had *thought* I had oed... but being super busy and not paying attention to these things. So I feel better about our chances this month. Where are you at in your cycle, Lin?

Lin - March 14

I'm currently at 3 dpo. Hubby left town just before I O-ed, so we saved up the boys for one big potent attempt. I feel pretty confident that our chances are as good as any other month, though, because fortunately I ended up O-ing early a day or so later. Take a look on Ebay. That's where I've found the best prices on opks and hpts. Some of the sellers on there are the exact same people you'd buy from on some of the cheapie pregnancy test websites. I just bought 30 hpts on Ebay for $12. I'm hoping I won't have to buy any more opks, so I'll wait until the end of the month to order them. If it's not looking promising for this month, then I will. Anyway, until you start the opks, I think you're best off bd-ing every other day and at least until a week or so after you'd expect to O (I say every other day, because if you're going to do it that long, it'll get tiring otherwise!). Good luck!

I totally agree Lin! Last month, dh got too exited to bd everyday *way* earlier than I probably oed, and then we got pretty tuckered out.... I've looked at opaks in stores but all we have up here (Canada) seems to be First Response with 5 tests. I may have a look online. Do you test every day in the 5 day period where you think you might o? Or do you scatter the tests a bit more? Does it have to be fmu?

Lin - March 14

No, you don't want opks to be fmu. You're supposed to take them between 10am and 8pm and NOT first thing. I normally start taking one per day at about cd 10 and then twice a day once they start getting darker lines until it gets faint after the positive. Look up the Ebay seller medicaldepo. That's the seller I just bought the 30 tests from, and they're in Canada.

I just thought I'd add that the 30 tests I got from that seller have exp. dates of 7/2006. Most others I've bought online were valid until 7/2007 or so. that doesn't bother me, because I know I'll use them up by then, but it's something to keep in mind and to ask the seller about before you buy.

Thanks for the tips :-)
