Excercise While Ttc

I take a pilates class once a week that lasts one hour. Much of the class is an intensive stomach workout. Dh does not want me to do much of anything while we are ttc in case I squish the potential fertilized egg or zygote and cause an early m/c. But I feel better if I go to the class. I also do outdoor activites on the weekend involving rock-climbing type activites (rapelling and climbing rope and some crawling through small areas). How much is too much????? Is there any type of excercise that is better for ttc?????

I hear you have a greater chance of conceiving if you exercise...your blood sugar is better regulated, and that is healthy for the whole reproductive system. Plus, I am ttc and wanted to run a 10k the other day. My obgyn said, "run your heart out!". If you are in shape and currently exercise when you get pregnant the word is to keep doing it in moderation. It is only dangerous when you are not used to doing it beforehand. Hope this helps!...For the most part, any exercise that is not too hard on the joints is good....

Thanks for both of your input. I am especially worried about the pilates because my pilates instructor told me that she found out the hard way that doing sit-ups is bad while pregnant. She didn't loose the baby, but did hurt something and had to go to the hospital, and this is someone that gets alot of exercise. I decided to go to pilates cla__s (because I just feel like such a slug without it), but I am going to take it easy in cla__s and not push things. I do yoga also, which I love and I think is doable while ttc or while pregnant. I used to do water aerobics. Maybe I should start back up again! Thanks again to both of you!!! Baby dust to you too!!!***

When you are ttc, exercise is the best thing for your body. It's when you actually get pregnant that you have to worry about what excercise is good/bad for your baby. My best friend is 5 months pregnant and has continue with her pilates (with her dr's permission), she just avoids certain moves. When you get pregnant talk to your dr about your routine and the type excercises that are ok.

Thanks Jen!! Its really good to know that others are doing pilates while pg. I am in my 2ww, and did not know how all the stomach-crunching exercizes may effect my ability to conceive. I also found this web page today which has some recommended excercises (http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/624.html) On this web site, it looks like you can do a lot of exercising but need to avoid activities where you might fall or injur yourself, and avoid scuba diving - fine with me since I can barely swim! -Kelly

think of it this way - professional dancers get pregnant too (and have healthy babies) - and they're dancing, doing pilates, or other exerices for easily 6 hours a day...

Dh is still pushing me for more input on this.... Has anyone out there known anyone that has had trouble ttc from too much abdominal exercise? Or from exercise in general? Also, has anyone gotten into trouble after pregnancy because of too much exercise or a certain type of exercise? I keep finding web sites that say "no sit ups" while preggo. -Kelly
