How much Follic (folic?) acid should a woman be taking each day?

you should talk to your doctor - they can prescribe a prenatal vitamin that you can take while TTC

400 micrograms(0.4 mg) before pregnancy and at least 800 micrograms (0.8 mg) during pregnancy. Prenatal vitamins are sold in stores and you can get a really good one through a prescription from your doctor. Good luck

I am taking prenatal vitamins, they are vanilla coated but I still gag when I take them (I'm ttc). The nurse told me never to get a generic because it is worse. Do the folic acid vitamins they sell at the store have a bad taste too? These just leave a nasty taste in my throat after I swallow so I have been swallowing them with chocolate.

Plus they're HUGE : (

Go for 1mg - November 21

My doctor told me to take 1mg before and during pregnancy. You will just pee out any excess, so you are better off taking a bit more than you need in case your body needs a bit more.
