Going Crazy Here

I am 29, had unprotected s_x with my then boyfriend on April 4th. I got my period on April 23rd, normal time for me, but I didn't go as heavy or last as long as I normally do. It was red so I didn't think much of it. The week of May 7th, I started noticing things...my br___ts were swollen, sore to the touch, hurt to wear a bra, nipples were wider, experienced mild cramping--PMS type, had short, sharp, pulling sensations near my belly button and been nauseous off and on. This kept up until I got my next period on May 19th, two days earlier than normal. This period was red, but it wasn't heavy, barely got on a pad, mostly on tissue when I wiped. I've been getting sick the last few days, couldn't hold anything down yesterday. I took a HPT test on May 12th and again on May 14th, both were negative. A nurse at the ER on the 14th told me my symptoms were consistent with first trimester pregnancy and to take another test around my next period due date. I took one this morning and it was negative. My br___ts aren't sore now but they appear lumpy around the nipples and there are a few small bumps on the areolas, along with a couple of blue veins I haven't seen before, but they don't appear really brown, just a little darker than before. I do feel a slight ache just beneath my belly button right, and I still feel really off...my hair and nails have started growing in the past month or so, and my nails never grow! With three negative tests and two periods, I assume I'm not pregnant, but I don't understand what's going on with me. I'm really confused because my br___ts feel fuller to me and everyone tells me I have first trimister pregnancy symptoms, even a nurse at the ER told me that, yet the neg tests and bleeding lead me to believe otherwise. I went a year without a period when I was 15/16 due to a hormone imbalance, went on the pill and became regular. I stopped taking the pill about six months later because I wasn't s_xually active and my periods have been regular ever since--over 12 years now! Could stress have done all this craziness to my body, caused a shift in my hormones? Even the hair on my legs isn't growing like it used to! I'm SO confused, nothing makes sense. Is it possible to want to be pregnant and imagine symptoms? My niece is pregnant right now, could I be having psychosomatic symptoms with her? I have a degree in psychology so its hard for me to think this is mostly in my head, especially since it feels so darn real! I did some back charting and would have been a couple of days before ovulation on April 4th. Is it possible, despite the neg tests and bleeding, that I am pregnant? What else could cause a shift in hormones? Anyone know? Even my perfume smells different on me, has a muskier scent or something.

Have you been on birth control again recently and then quit it? It's very common to get pregnancy symptoms after going off birth control due to the hormone changes. Are you trying to conceive and taking prenatal vitamins? Those do wonders for your hair and nails. I've been a nail biter my whole life due to brittle nails, and ever since I've been taking prenatals, my nails have been gorgeous! If the answers to the questions I just asked are no, then you might want to ask your doctor for a quant_tative blood test. That can tell you for sure whether or not you're pregnant. Those symptoms sound like pregnancy symptoms, but it's very unlikely to BOTH have period-like bleeding AND get negative urine tests during pregnancy.

I haven't been on birth control since I was a teenager, and I only started taking prenatal vitamins after talking with the nurse on May 14th. It's so crazy yet I know my sisters both bled during their first trimesters and one of them kept getting neg results on tests all 3 times she was pregnant. It's all very confusing. I keep going back and forth whether I am or not. It's so weird! I wasn't trying to conceive at all! Pregnancy has been the last thing on my mind since I don't feel I'm at that stage in my life right now and to have these symptoms or whatever is going on is flipping me out. My periods are normally heavy, but the last two haven't been. I could attribute that to stress, but the other stuff has me stumped.

sounds to me like you are pregnant...i have problems testing positive even though i am pregnant..has happened to me 3 times with my pregnancies...i would definitely see a different doc

Nevertheless, it's only the rare person who doesn't get a positive test, so you're best off not telling people they're pregnant when they haven't gotten one. The fact that you happened to be one of those rare people doesn't make it any more common. All that said, it is promising that her sisters were in that rare bunch as well. Deanna, I definitely think you should see your doctor for a quant_tative blood test. If you are pregnant, that's the only way to know for sure. Good luck!

After another spotty period, more neg urine tests, a pelvic ultrasound and a transv____al ultersound, it is determined I'm not pregnant and that there is a possible cyst on my left ovary. I went to the doctor on Friday and all he did was a urine test-no pelvic exam!--and set me up for an ultrasound. No clue why he didn't do a pelvic first or a blood test. I will definitely be finding myself a new doctor, let me tell you. This was my first visit to this one since I moved almost two years ago and I wasn't impressed in the least. Anyway, good luck to those trying and those still trying to figure out what is going on with them.
