Grandpa Viv Is KY Jelly Safe Does Robitussin Help

Aloha from Honolulu Grandpa Viv! I was just wondering about the safeness of different lubricants - yesterday I couldn't find my KY Jelly (is it safe for sperm or does it contain some chemicals which could harm them - also, is it liquidy enough to help them swim for long enough to reach the fallopian tubes if my cm is too thick?) so I used some Gerber baby lotion, and was wondering if that was also safe or harmful? Is there anything in those lotions whcih can kill or diminish the effectiveness/life of sperm. Also, I read on several sites that Robitussin Expectorant helps move the sperm along greatly since it can thin out thick or globby cm which can hinder the sperms' "voyage" to the ovum. Any truth to this and what is your expert opinion. Are there any more scientific sites which could help me with some of these questions? Thanks again for always answering me so promptly!

Google - sperm ky jelly - and - pregnancy robitussin - you will get plenty of hits. There have been a few posts here from women who said that Robitussin did the trick. Have you tried saliva, lovingly applied? Good luck!

OK - in terms of lubrication, I wouldn't use anything unless it is Pre-seed. Some lubricants are not going to kill the sperm, but they act as a barrier so that the sperm can't swim through the cervix. Pre-seed is a sperm-friendly lubricant that actually helps the sperm swim through the cervix. It is not cheap ($20 for 6 applications) but it is well worth the money. I got pregnant using Pre-seed. You can check out www.ingfertility.com for more info on it. I also used Robitussin, but it didn't work for me. It only works if you have really thick cm. I guess mine wasn't thick! I found a study to look at. Visit www.helpconceive.com then look on the left and click "how most personal lubricants damage sperm" then click "view abstract". Also, I wouldn't recommend using saliva either. Check out http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=6890474&dopt=Abstract for a study on the effect of saliva on sperm. Hope this helps you!

Take out the hyphens from that last web site for it to work. (query, amp, Abstract) Good luck!

Deb, THANKS ALOT! I just came back from that site, and many others saying just what you said:, nothing is good for the sperm, including saliva!!!!! Argh! Some say egg whites or hot water, even a teeny bit of safflower or canola oil are safe. I used KY on cd8, and a little Gerber baby lotion (with oatmeal) on cd11 - duh! 'cause I couldn't fiind my KY Jelly! I hope that turned out to be a lucky thing! Thanks for your advice! So nice to be back in touch! How's your pregnancy coming along? Any yucky symptoms such as "morning" sickness - hope it's not hitting you all day like it did me with my first! Sore b___bs too eh? Poor Deb... hope you don't have to put up with too much - it's your first right? Get the book: "A girlfriiend's Guide to Pregnancy" It CRACKED ME UP LOL!

Hey GC, the pregnancy is going well. I am just starting to get over the ma__sive nausea that has been rendering me incapacitated for the last 3 months! Luckily my DH has been fantastic and has even taken over the cooking (I can't stand the smells!) I'm telling you...Pre-seed is the way to go. I spent a ton of money (took us 6 months) but it was soooo worth it. I found bd'ing very uncomfortable since we did it so much, pre-seed was the best lube I had ever used, very much like natural lubrication. You can order it online from www.early-pregnancy-tests.com or amazon.com and often there is a sale where they give you 8 app's instead of 6, and they usually come with free pregnancy tests. Hope this helps...oh, I heard that water can also be harmful to sperm (but better than the others I guess). It decreases motility. Good luck!!!
