LH Surge

I have had a positive result using OPK for the last 3 mornings, including this morning. Yesterday my temp increased though. Is it possible to have ovulated, but still have high LH levels?

Hmm! Is this the first month you have been doing this? I imagine everyone has to get used to their own peculiarities over several cycles. That OPK reading can be tricky, since the line has to be darker than the control to indicate positive. Anyhow, since sperm from the day or two before ovulation is more effective than sperm on the day of ovulation itself, the cue to get busy should be the beginning of the surge, don't you think?

Grandpa Viv, I have used OPK's for several months, and the surge usually lasts 2 days. I just thought I would've ovulated by now and wasn't sure if it's possible to still have a surge after ovulation. I guess we'll wait and see what happens this month. Thanks for your response! :-)

I heard that some people can actually ovulate twice in one cycle..maybe that is what is going on?

ME--I heard you werent supposed to test for LH surge w/ morning urine?.. are you using a brand that allows that? I got + on 3/9 and 3/10 around 6:00pm then it tapered off to neg on 3/11. I got a temp increase on 3/13 and it has stayed high ever since.

I have read that some people will/can still have a surge after they ovulate b/c sometimes they still may be fertile for a short period after ovulation.

The opk i buy here in australia ONLY shows a line when the surge takes place (only a control line on the other days).... It is made in USA, marketed here as Fortel, but probably under a different name in US... not expensive, one kit has five tests and is around $18 which would be about $14 US ... when i buy the next one, probably today or tomorrow, i will phone the customer service number on the box and ask what it is marked as in US... i cant imagine trying to figure out faint as compared to stronger/darker second line would go... i have major problems with faint lines.... lol... and Grandpa Viv is right of course... get busy before 'o' day, and once you have done a couple opk's you should get an idea of when you are ovulating and what the signs are so probably would not have to use them every cycle.... hopefully we wont have to use them for long cos we should ALL be getting pregnant soon!

Wouldn't that be nice! :-)

Now, I am having trouble with OPK's...it says to hold urine for 4 hrs before doing, and not in the am. Well, I have only been able to hold for 2 hrs- for the past 2 days-(getting a cold) Do you think this will affect the surge line? I don't think I am O yet, b/c I am checking cm and cervix as well, but just want to get some opinions- don't want to mess anything up. Mulgajill, those tests sound good! I am thinking of buying the saliva test next month if this doesn't work!

have done a bit of a search... the fortel opk test is marketed by Biomerica, the opk on the site is called "ez" (the hpt's are called fortel same as here) ... probably the same one... have copied the blurb from the web page: Call for Price List 949-645-2111 or FAX 949-722-6674. To order products, please contact Biomerica directly for further information...... So it may be worth a try to contact them and find out if it is a "control line ONLY unless surge is taking place test". The one i used i started on day 9 of cycle, two tests with control line only, then test with strong test line on third try.... ahhhh... so easy... :-)

My MD actually told me to take the OPK in the am..even though the test suggests later in the day..she said you are more likely to get a false negative or false positive later in the day..not sure why. so that may help w/ your ability to "hold" it longer!

stacey - March 20

thanks Amy- my test says yuo can do that if you can't wait, but I've heard people usually have their surges in the afternoon. I guess I will do am- can't hurt anymore than me not being able to wait for the 4 hrs (I was terrible when I had to hold it for the U/S :)

mulgajill - March 20

The tests suggest later in the day because if they are the 'faint line or strong line' ones, holding off can make the test give a stronger line when in fact the hormone levels are really still lowish... which is why after 10 am is the go... i would reckon do it the SAME time everyday would be the best... and check out www.peeonastick.com for imfo on opk's... this is a really helpful site.... for all us closet pee'ers.. still better than being a closet drinker i guess, though the drinkin' would probably be cheaper .... lol... :-)

yeah, I took it this am, thatnks AMY- it was def. lighter than before, but figure I should catch it if I consistantly do it in am. (hope to anyway!)
