Linea Negra

I want to start a thread about Linea Negra! Please share your linea negra stories and what it looked like and whether or not you ended up pregnant after seeing it! As for me, no AF since January 8th. But! I FINALLY bought a new thermometer (old was broken) and my temps have been high for me but who knows what that means. Anyway, I have a light brown line going from just below my belly button to the top of my (tmi sorry!) pub. hair line. It is like a skin discoloration . . . light brown. I can't figure out if it just came or it was there . . . I certainly don't remember it being there! Others, SHARE your stories!

Have you taken a pregnancy test? January 8th is quite a long time ago. Sorry, I guess I'm just a bit confused.

Hi soimpatient! Yes I've tested and all BFNs so I've stopped testing as of late. My last test was a week ago. I don't really think I'm preggers but I can't help wondering whats going on with my body! High temps, weird brown line . . . I'm sure its nothing but its enough to keep me wanting to hear other people's stories as a way of putting off studying for law school exams! =)

PS do you have a linea negra story?

Hmmmm. I really don't know and I wish I could help but I'm not pregnant yet :( I had a large cyst (bigger than a tennis ball) a couple of months ago and I did notice that my body was acting weird...I felt like I was pregnant. I explained this to my gyn and he said that it is common to feel this way when you have cysts because they release the same hormones (excluding HCG) as when you are pregnant. I would ask your doctor for an ultrasound to check for cysts especially since you haven't had a period since January. Oh, by the way, my first signs of my cyst was that I was having ovarian pain. I hope this helps. P.S. sorry I couldn't help with your linea nigra question!!!

I've got one of those lines, too. I never noticed it until a year or so ago.

Yes, soimpatient, esp. persistent luteal cysts that don't dry up and cause the bleeding to start. See, they come every month after ovulation and keep releasing progesterone until i'ts time for af (then it dries up, the sudden drop in progesterone causes the bleeding to start). However, some of us have trouble with persistent corpus luteum cycsts that stick around releasing progesterone, delaying af, and causing pregnancy hormones. (because if you do conceive, it is suppossed to stick around and release progesterone to support the early pregnancy). does that make sense? it's also called Halban's syndrome. I've made a post in the past saying that I think this could explain alot of our late af's with symptoms & BFN'S. best to you all!

Hi Girls! Wow so . . . . heres the thing--My gyno checked me for cysts (ultrasound) and did tests to check for PCOS in December and he said that everything looked healthy. But is it possible to have cysts that only show up in luteal phase?????

Here's what I found at Pregnancy Weekly "You have probably never noticed the pale line, called the linea alba, that runs from your belly b___ton to the top of your pubic bone. It is usually the same color as your skin, but during pregnancy this line may darken (usually during your second trimester) and is then called a linea negra (Latin for "black line”). This darkening is caused by increases in estrogen and progesterone, which in turn step up production of the pigment melanin, a condition known as hyperpigmentation. Fair skinned women show linea negra less often than women with darker pigmentation. And some research suggests there may be a link between linea negra and insulin.

Wow, thanks Patti! Do you have a linea negra? Story? I have very fair skin and the line I see is light brown. I know that I am in the midst of a progesterone surge because my bbs are sore and my morning temps are elevated and my cheeks are red and hot throughout the day. But . . . . I'm interested in that connection to insulin. Diabetes runs in my family. Alrighty, share your stories ladies!!! And Happy Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil Evening. =)

Lawgirl, I've only noticed mine in when I was in my third trimester in past pregnancies. I'm one day short of 20 weeks right now and don't see the faintest line. I guess everyone is different. Good luck to you!
