how can we tell if we have a luteal phase defect ?

i think u have to see a dr to get an official diagnosis but if u ovulate later than day 20 in your cycle or if u dont make enuf progestorone i htink those are the big signs. for me its i ovulate to late in my cycle so it made me have 3 mc :(

how do youknew if we have enough progesterone ? can WE knew or do we have to be diagnosed.i read somewhere if we spot brown before af it is due to low progesterone. but who knews if that is true....?

im not sure... the only reason i knew i have problem is cuz i had the mc and b/c i dont ovulate until day 21. i think a dr has to diagnose the pregestorne levels

Luteal phase defect can be determined by counting the number of days between the day you ovulate and the first day of your cycle. If there are less than 10 days, it is considered luteal phase defect. Basically, there is not enough progesterone being produced to sustain the uterine lining for successful implantation. You could be fertilizing an egg every month, but thee needs to be at least 10 days, idelaly between 12-14 days. To be correctly diagnosed, I believe a uterine lining biopsy can be preformed about 7 days after ovulation, and it can also be determined by blood work. Taking up 200mg of B6 daily is known to lengthen the luteal phase and many woman have had success jsut by this method. Fortunately, luteal phase defect, once diagnosed is easily treated by progesterone supplements. Best to go to www.fertilityfriend.com and start doing Basal Body Temperature charts, this is the easiest way to determine exactly when you ovulate and how many days are in your personal luteal phase. Hope this helps.
