On What Days Should We Try

Hello everyone, I have posted on other threads and am starting a new one. New month, new hope.......anyway, DH and I have been trying for several months and I was wondering....what days should we try? I just feel like we are getting the timing all wrong at this point. I know there is like a 5 day window in which we can get pregnant, but then other people are telling me different things. Some are saying the 12th, 13th, 14th day following AF is the best time. Some are saying right after AF ends, I am so confused and I was hoping some of you ladies could shed some light on this. Thanks so much!

Hi, Megray. Do you use opks or temp? A lot of women use those to help determine when they ovulate. Do you know when or about when you ovulate? Do you know how long your cycle is? See the standard example is: if you have a 28 day cycle, you ovulate CD14 (mid cycle) so it's best to have s_x 2 days BEFORE CD14 and 2 days after (CD16) just in case. A lot of women say to have s_x every other day around that time b/c sperm lives up to 5 days, 3 average. If you have an irregular cycle, it makes it harder for some to determine when they ovulate. Me, personally, I could tell the approx. time of ovulation b/c of ewcm (egg white cervical mucus) and slight cramping and the last 2 mths., I've had ovulation spotting, now I am 7 days late. Hope that helps, good luck.

I didn't chart my body temps, or use OPKs, they didnt work, or i didnt use them right. Lol. But the way I got pregnant was I used the mymonthlycycles.com site, and it tells u ur most fertile days, i did that and got pregnant! Im 35 weeks today! Good luck to u.

Thanks LadyD! See, I am confused because I CANNOT for the life of me, tell when I am ovulating. I have tried, but I guess I am never right on about it. I have a 33 day cycle. I had slight cramping last month, so DH and I tried around then and nothing. Maybe I should try an OPK. Thanks for your advice and good luck to you!!!! Keep me posted!

You're welcome, Megray. Congrats melz! I actually use mymonthlycyles.com, too, I 've been using it since last yr and it's been helpful. Start charting your periods and watch your v____al area mid cycle time, hopefully it will work out for you. I mean opk's and stuff are way more accurate but I haven't decided to go that far yet, I think the old fashion way is the best for now...LOL.

Congrats Melz! Thanks, I will check out that site.

Meg, with a 33 day cycle, subtract 14 ( the usual luteal phase length for women) days from 33---- I'd say you should be 'active' from day 13 to 19, ( first day of period being day 1 ) with maybe one or 2 extra days after that for good measure....God bless!

Melz, I went on that site, it seems to be pretty accurate for my info. My question to you is, should we try on the actual day of ovulation, or before that? I have heard to try every other day, but starting when and ending on which day? I know everyone is different, but do you remember which days you targeted? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again!

Hi, if you go to this site, you can put in the date of the first day of your last period and your cycle length, and it will give you a range of fertile days. I used it and got a bfp last night! www.babycenter.com/calculators/ovulation/

My advice is to start having s_x a few days after af up until a few days after suspected Ovulation. Having s_x on your suspected Ovulation date will have less chances of getting you pregnant. You have a fertile window of about 5 days every month and the highest conception rate has been found to be 2 days prior to intercourse because the average sperm survives 2 days but they can survive in the most optimal conditions for 5 days. Bottom line have s_x as often as possible and do not restrict your days to A SUSPECTED ovulation date. Good Luck

*correction*** 2 days prior to OVULATION***

Thanks ladies for all the advice. I am hoping something works this month, maybe using that calendar will at least be a little help as my cycle has been kind of confusing. Emma, thanks for your input. I will keep you posted!
