Hello! My husband and I just decided to start trying, but it is shortly after I ovulated that we tried, don't I have up to my period to concieve or am I really only left with 12-24 hours. I have had friends get pregnant all times of the month, I was actually conceived right before my mother's period. We're anxious to have our pregnancy as a x-mas surprise!!!! Thanks Leah

Usually the egg lasts 12 to 24 hours after ovulation, but every woman's cycle is different. If you know your body well enough you can feel when ovulation happens (I often did). A good window would be two days before to one day after ovulation, because sperm live longer than the egg does.
