hi izechs - I found O to be only painful when there was a cyst present on my ovary. I would usually get some cramping during O but when I had a cyst, I would get a backache, if my bladder was full it would put pressure on the ovary and that would kill too! You might want to look into it. GL

I have heard that it's normal and can be agony (boy that's something to look forward too) but if it's come on all of a sudden the last two cycles...it may be worth asking your doc about.

yeah.. definately... i've always known about O.. because i would get cramping, sometimes a little bleeding.. but these last two cycles have been much worse... but i also just had my IUD removed in November and I dont think i ovulated that month... i had a 45 day cycle... who knows.. but if i dont end up preggo, i'm gonna talk to my dr... are you expecting too? if so did the cysts deter you from getting there?

Carla.. most of my pain was on the left... so i know what you mean... :)

I'm expecting, yes. I started getting cysts about the last 3 months that I was on the pill which would have been Nov, Dec (2005) and Jan 2006. I went to the doctor because of the pain and the doc told me that I was trying to O even though I was on the pill and it was causing cysts. So, I decided to get off the pill and let my body do what it wanted to to....I figured it was doing this for a reason. Well, about a month after getting off the pill, I had the worst cyst every...huge one...it burst and sent me to the hospital! That was a year ago this month. I stayed of bc and just didn't have s_x the week of O until we wanted to try. I kept getting cysts at the time of O, but they must have been much smaller and only a couple months of the past year, were they painful. That being said, we started ttc in October, we conceived the beginning of January (little over 5 weeks now) so I would say that the type of cysts I had (follicular cycsts) did not affect my fertility. Hope this helps.

I always can tell when i am 'o' ing - Sharp stabbing pains left and then right - mostly left this time round. I start to get them a few days before a + OPK and usually last a few days. I've had them a bit longer than normal this cycle - so if i dont get a BFP then i am going to check in with my Dr. I dont usually get back aches, But yeah it hurts!!! BD'ing can be a little uncomfortable as well ---

Hiya, yeah I usually get painful ovulation cramps that can last for 24 hours. Look it up on the internet under 'Mittelschmerz', the German name for 'pain in the middle/waist'. Actually quite good because you know EXACTLY when you're ovulating, haha.

frozen thank you very much for that info.. i was worried about it.. cause i had my iud removed due to cysts.. and so i wasnt sure if it'd affect my fertility... thank you all for your information... :)
