Question About OPKs

I just started using opks yesterday and I should ovulate either this weekend or next weekend depending on how long my cycle will be this month. Last month was 1st month of BC so I had a 5 week cycle. I could be back to 4 week cycle now. Anyway, last night I got a faint line under the control line. Does that mean that I am slowing starting to have an LH surge? Meaning, will that line continue to get darker? OR will it stay like that until I finally have my big surge? I am a little confused because this is my first month to use them. Thanks!

hi the faint line means you have a little LH in your body most women do at all times so no it doesn't mean you are starting to have a lh surge the line has to equal to or darker than the control line to have a lh surge mine are really light for days then all of a sudden aredark

Krob- Thank you! I have never used them before so I was not sure. That is what I thought though. I just wanted to be sure because the package isnt too clear on that.

Always get faint lines before - October 21

Before my LH surge I get a line, then I would get a positive. It is a good thing to start bding when you start getting the faint line because you body is preparing for ovulation and it's an advance warning. When you actually get a + OPK test the LH surge has already happened more than 4-6 hours before. It takes that long for the LH hormone to show in the urine. So my doctor told me to get busy bding when you get any line that is dark. Krob is correct that a woman always have LH in her body, but before a line shows up on the OPK it must be close to 15ml which is only that amount within the window of fertility. That's why when you are in the lutuel phase after ovulation, you can take a test and it is white with no line. Reason being that LH is no longer the dominate hormone, but progesterone. Hope that helps.

That helps a lot. It wasn't barely there, but it wasnt dark either. I am hoping that it will get dark this weekend. I will bd lots this weekend just in case.

Wow, thanks for all your imput. Krob, I was just about to ask that same question. I have been taking the OP test for 4 days straight and all have had faint lines. Yesterday afternoon and this morning I had some cramping. This is also my first month to use them and our first month of trying. Got off BC two months ago. Thanks for the information from your doctor Always Get a Faint....You really helped. Did you guys get cramping with the faint lines?

One more question...is it postive to continue to get faint lines from the OPK and never get a dark line?

to amanda - October 21

i agree about the faint lines, however i am a little confused about the information you gave about BC, are you on it? if you are, then i am not too sure you will get any accurate results from OPK's at all...you shouldnt be able to get pregnant while on BC, i could have read what you wrote about BC wrong, but i think that you said last month was first month OF BC...does that mean that was your last month of it, or your first month starting it? just wondering, otherwise, continue to test, and continue to BD every other day from now until you get the dark line...take care!!! and good luck to you!!!!!!!!!

You guys should try www.peeonastick.com It really helped me out. Baby dust!

Amanda - October 21

Last month was my 1st month OFF the pill. This is my 2nd month ttc. I was curious how the opks were supposed to work since I got a faint (but not too faint) line yesterday.

Diane - October 21

Amanda, I am in the same exact situation as you! This is our second month. I just went to www.peeonastick.com and it answered some of my questions. You should check it out. I'm going to take another OPT this evening and see if the surge line is there yet. Until then I'm going to BD every day. Have you had any cramping yet?

Diane - October 21

Amanda, FYI....I just got off the phone with my doctor and she said she wouldn't rely on the OPKs that much. She said the best way is to count the days on the calender and then BD ever other day. I got off the pill in Sept and October was my first full cycle off the pill and it was exactly 27 days, so I'm pretty lucky that my first cycle was normal. Which means there is a good change that I'm oing right now (with the cramping being the indicator). I'm don't expect to get pregnant this month, but I'm sure hoping too! Anyway, thought I would share with you since you are going through the same thing.

Amanda - October 21

Diane, I havent had the cramping yet. Usually my cm changes and then I get the cramps. I think it will probably happen tomorrow or Sunday. I am going to start bding tonight.

Amanda, Good luck. It's pretty exciting huh! I was just reading through some of the other post. Are you the Amanda that's almost 25? I turned 25 in September and this will be our first pregnancy. How about you?

Amanda - October 21

Yep! That's me! I will be 25 at the end of February. I'm from TX. How about you? I am really excited about this month now that i have a little more info about getting pregnant. This is my 2nd month off the pill. Last month, I had a 5 week cycle. I think this time I will be back to my 28 day cycle. Tomorrow will be day 14 of my cycle. I am hoping that my cm is a good indicator. Anyway, you should join in on the other posts. I am in the "O on Oct 28", "still No af", and Ladies in Waiting. They all have interesting things to say since some are trying, some are waitng, and some have their BFPs.

Diane - October 21

Amanda, Hey there! I'm from TX to...Dallas actually. Okay, I will join you over there!

krob - October 21

oh one more thing just because you never get a darkline doesn't mean you arent ovulating some women dont produce a lot of LH when they are about to ovulate or your surge might be short I had a positive one and then took another test like 8 hours later and was not as dark oh and I am 25 too just turned I am trying to conceive number 2
