Somewhat Stupid Question

I am sorry if this is somewhat of a stupid question to most of you but I get told mixed things. It is normally 14 days AFTER your period that you should have s_x to conceive correct? which for a person who has a 28 day cycle it is smack in the middle of their next period. This is the ONLY day you can conceive or best luck at it?

not a stupid question! If you are a 28 day cycle, you would count 14 days after the FIRST DAY of your last period. For example, if your period started 2 weeks ago on a Tuesday, then today (Tuesday) is day 14. "most fertile". And as for day 14 being the ONLY day- sperm live longer than one day. I hear 2-4 days, but it may be longer. The egg only lives 12-24 hours I have read. So while there is a shorter window to actually be fertilized, you can increase your chances by "trying" in the days before ovulation, as well as the day of, the day after, etc. Does this make sense?

yes that makes sense thank you. I am due for my period coming up soon so I will have to wait until the next time around ;)

Well, let me add something I should have said earlier. There's always that chance of conceiving any time of month. The scenario I gave was just the norm. In reading all of the different stories on here, lots of women have said they've got pregnant outside of that "window", even actually during a period. So if you want to conceive, you might as well take your chances now. After all, the fun is in tryin anyway, huh?! ;) Good luck!

Thank you, and you are right, no harm in trying. So it is two weeks from the day your last period started though, I will have to watch that. I am not much for keeping track of my period. I a__sume it is somewhat normal because I work with allot of woman and I can place myself to before or after theirs. . .that and the fact that I have the WORST PMS ever so I can warn my boyfriend when it is coming ;)

I know how you feel. Not only are my cramps out of this world, my mood swings make me a raging b___h. My poor hubby spends a lot of time in the yard when that rolls around. lol When you feel it coming, tell your bf to saddle up! Good luck! Oh, and have fun!

Is it true that some people may lose weight from no appet_te before they gain weight from the baby when pg. This being even if they are not getting sick, they are just NOT hungry

m - October 26

Yes, that happens. A friend of mine lost something like 7 pounds in the beginning because she had no appet_te. And even when she did eat, everything she ate made her nauseated. So that does happen.

embarrased - October 26

ok thats good, thats another sign. But what if it does not make you nauseated once you do eat?

m - October 26

Then it's probably best to nourish your body. You have to keep your strength up, etc. I ate my 3 good meals, then I had in-between snacks too, to keep my hunger at bay, and to get those extra calories you need when your pg.

embarrased - October 26

well thats the thing, I have to find out IF I am pg first ;). I have had on and off again tender b___sts, on and off again nausea, and NO hunger...nothing sounds good to eat. I finally do eat and I am ok.

Sounds like some of the earliest signs of pregnancy! Even though it's similar to PMS, you know your body, and if this feels different, it probably is! Keep us posted!

I will do that, thanks for all your answers so far.

Anytime :) I look forward to hearing your good news!

CORRECTION: The days before ovulation are the best for conception. If you wait until ovulation occurs, you only have that brief window of egg survival. The best chance is 1 day before, where the chance of a single act causing impregnation is 35%. Two days before, with sperm survival down a bit, the chance drops to 25% and so on. The change in v____al mucus is as good a sign as any for the approach of ovulation.

m - October 27

Viv, what are you correcting? Please read my first post and you'll see that I told her the SAME thing.... chances are best the days "before" ovulation.

My sister and I are on 28 day cycles and our fertile perods both begin 10 days after the first day of our MP. Ovulation occurs on day 14. She had problems conceiving because she was trying too late in the month.
