ViV How About This Situation

Viv, if I had s_x with someone 3-4 days before her period, she then has a period. What are the chances that my sperm could have stayed around and fertilization occurred during the mentstrual cycle ? Also, are you a RN, how are you so knowledgeable on this subject ?

If you have s_x shortly before an expected period, and the period comes as expected, there is no pregnancy. The period wipes the slate clean. Any sperm present is dead long before the next ovulation. The danger is that it is difficult to know for sure ahead of time when the next period is going to be. It comes 14 days after ovulation, but what if ovulation was a few days or a week late? Women can learn to tell when they ovulate, either from a pain in the ovary, by temperature charting, or by characteristics of the cervix. The egg is viable for only 24 to 36 hours after ovulation. I am not an RN. I am a good researcher. Double up on protection and stay clear of the fertile window.

I was unsure if you could fertilize in the first 3 days or so of the period? I thought I read that somewhere???

You get into a risk zone toward the end of the period. Sperm from Day6 could still be viable on Day11, and on that day she could ovulate if three days early.
