my dr said i may have had a benign ovum...what exactly is this and how do you tell if it happened?

It is called blighted ovum. This is when the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall but the embryo does not develop. This occurs in the first trimester, usually will miscarry naturally. You may have a late period, adominal cramps, spotting, and a positve pregnancy test. Your period will be heavier. Ultrasound will show empty womb and birth sac.

Kim is right. I had a blighted ovum last year and m/c at 11w6d. I had a BFP test, m/s, sore bbs, all of the prego symptoms. It was not until 9weeks that they found out when I had a u/s in the office. The egg implants, but the yolk sac with the embryo didn't developed. I believe this was my hardest m/c. I have had 3.

thanks. my dr said this may have happened after just two or so days of conception. He said that because it happened so early, I would get a BFP. hmmm
