Why Try Ttc When Your Health Care System Sucks

I've had many symptoms of pg and every test neg. I tried even yesterday to go to a gyn and what do I get a Pap smear? The last time I even dropped off a urine sample at my docs they tested it for a bladder infection rather than pregnancy test. So if I am I will probably have to have an abortion cause I'm on a prescrip medication that I feel I shouldn't be taking if preg but if you can't even get in to find out or the run around then why bother but I do wish alll ladies on here ttc much luck in their pursuit of pregnancy as for me I think I better not try anymore and you would even think that they care because I'm almost 35!! Don't get pregnant in Canada.

Dear fed up - do you mind telling me which province in Canada, because I live in Canada also and would like to avoid whatever hospital you are going to!! Please don't give up. Go and DEMAND that a quant_tative blood test (pregnancy test) be taken. And find our from your Doctor, what harm if any that prescription medications might have to your unbord child if you are pregnant. Good luck to you!!

I live in Ontario and have to go to a nearby city Chatham for so called health care. I already have a feeling that the prescription med I'm on to help me sleep at night should be stopped immediately but as I said before I even brought my fat burner and med last night to the ob gyn and the only thing he said "He laughed and wondered where I got the fat burner from and said he where could I order some. I also told him that right on the fat burner label it says don't take if you are pregnant but in my case who knows. I would demand a blood test be taken but if you can believe it at my doctors office most of the time they don't answer the phone as you have to go in fill out a pink sheet stating you would like an appointment go home and wait for someone to call you back which could take about a week or two and the last time that I sent a urine sample for pregnancy, they tested it for a bladder infection now how stupid is that. I just can't win either way at a specialist or my regular doctor. I even called this morning another ob gyn who I went to a long time ago who I originally wanted to go to in the first place and they told me I need a referral and could probably tell me the same day if I was preg if I dropped off a sample at a lab but said your regular doctor should be able to tell you and need a referral. So again back to square one. So much for trying to be responsible.

Fed up - that's rediculous!! I don't really know what to tell you. If you think you are pregnant and the medication that you are taking is not for a serious illness, then maybe you should stop taking it until you know for sure?. What about asking a pharmacist at the local drug store about the medication and whether you should stop taking it for now. I live in Nova Scotia and am pretty greatful for that, our health care system isn't perfect, but a whole lot better than yours it seems. I wish you all the best!

Hi Autum, No I understand what you are saying and know you mean no harm. Maybe I could get into see your doctor if you live near Windsor or Chatham. But where I live doctors are very very scarce and unless a new practice comes to the area then I'm out of luck. But have you heard of anything so ridiculous as that? If I could get into a doctor in the same day that would be great. Most of the time I go to a walk in clinic if I'm really sick because it would take at least a week or two or longer to get into mine. That's what were paying this new OHIP tax that comes of my weekly paycheque and for what? I just get the runaround and frustrated. I was going to go to a walk in clinic to get a urine test done last night but ran out of time. If I'm not preg I'm not sure if I will try again. Where I live we used to have great health care and now it really sucks.

I live in Montreal Quebec and I'm lucky to have an excellent gynaecologist who has been practising for over 30 years. I had a D&C last Nov. for a non-viable pg and although the staff at the hospital was obviously overworked I had no complaints about the service. Unfortunately in Quebec, new doctors are forced to practise in rural areas due to a shortage, and because of this many are relocating to other provinces.

Hi Audrey, That is exactly what is happening here but the only difference is with my doctor that you have to fill out a pink sheet leave it at the office and wait for someone to call you with an appt and then you have to go back. Where I live there is only one doctor for the whole town which is about 5000-600 people and I believe mine services about 8000 patients because most doctors are being lured to the States for more money and I believe that is the larger part of the problem. Needless to say I can't blame them for wanting to make more money but we need some here. Also were getting what they call Nurse Pract_tioners which can't give you a prescrip but they try to help you find a doctor.
