Does anyone else boil their baby's bottles every time you wash them? My mom told me I need to boil them every time, so I have been. Of coarse I always boil the nipples and peice that keeps the nipple on, but is it really necessary to boil the bottles every time?

How old is your baby?? I boiled my bottles and nipples yes.... I would just wait until you had like 3 or 4 of them and do them all together..You can get a thing now that you put everything on and put it in the microwave to sterialize them.. Its just so you make sure everything is relaly clean for you baby.. once they reach about 6 months I stopped with my daughter.

I boiled mine with my first daughter (that was 7 yrs ago though and alot has changed) but for this one I wont be boiling the bottles or the nipples, because the directions say not to boil the nipples because of risk of tearing or breaking and I will just put the bottle part in the dishwasher, I am using the playtex bottles though that have the sterile drop in bags so you may still want to boil the bottles if you using regular ones..... I am interested to see what other people are doing too.... When I wash the nipples though I will wash them in a dish pan that will only be used for bottles and nipples....

i wish he wouldn't fuss when i feed him with the drop ins, they are SO much easier and much quicker to clean

i wonder if hes having to work harder... are you using the same nipples or maybe the nipple change? Thats interesting....

No you dont have to do that . You only boil bottles, oral toys and pacifiers to sterlize them after purchase. there really is absolutely no need to sterlize things over and over .

I hoped not...it's a pain in the b___t to boil them a thousasnd times! Of coarse I will keep boiling the nipples (silicon only, i know you can only boil latex once) but not the bottles anymore. thanks girls. tjane i think he does have to work harder, it is a latex nipple w/ a smaller hole and usually i use silicone nipples

no, you only need to boil them(bottles and nipples) the first time before you use them. after that, handwashing is fine (or the dishwasher). i had to ask my ds's pediatrician about that too, cuz i wasn't sure either. but she said once you've boiled them the first time, the dishwasher is just fine! :)

Whatever you do, DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE MICROWAVE WITH LIQUID. Please always heat up the Liquid first, because there are chemicals in bottles that seep out during microwaving. I've learned this from the pediatrician I want to use for my baby girl and my OBGYN. My aunts also done it, and it made her baby sick. It doesn't happen to all babys, but it does occur.

lilmomma...Sorry to jump in here. I'm not exactly a teen but I like to try and help you young new mommies. I also used the playtex drop ins. I had to keep changing the different nipples that you can buy for these bottles. I finally found one. Don't ask me to remember which one. That was 6.5 years ago. Good luck and God bless you and your family.
