How Does Plan B Affect Your Next Period

Ok. I took a pregnacy test last night and it was negative but after a half hour it turned into a very faint positive. I know that you can't read the results after 10 min but it showed up. What do you think? Oh I should say that it was equate brand from Walmart...for $3.98 how accurate are those?

That was probably an evaporation line. Throw the test in the garbage if it does not show positive in the specified time.

I'm not sure if anyone is still on this thread but here is my situation: I am on the NuvaRing. During my ring free week, on the second to last day of my period, April 5, I had unprotected s_x with my boyfriend. Now, I'm supposed to start the ring on Mondays, but I couldn't get to the pharmacy in time on Monday. Monday night, April 7, I had s_x but used a condom. I started the ring on Tuesday. I had s_x (with a condom) on April 12, the next Saturday. Now, I am supposed to use condoms for 7 days after putting the ring if I'm late. So on Monday the 14 (I was fertile during this time) I had s_x without a condom. Four times, actually. I freaked out and got Plan B the next day because I wasn't sure if Monday or Tuesday counted for 7 days. I then had unprotected s_x on Friday the 18th, the day after I was supposed to be ovulating. It is the 23rd now, and I'm due to have my period on May 1. However, because I started the ring late and I took Plan B, I know my period will be messed up in ways I don't know yet. I have taken Plan B before and it does usually make me have a much worse period...so that's what I think (hope) these cramps are. I think my chances are slim, but I wanted to get your input because I'm not sure what the side effects are of all that. Thoughts?

Well isn't someone a little bunny, haha. All jokes aside, with all the contraceptives being used it's definitely going to be messing with your period due to the whole hormonal pendulum imbalance. However, I think, since you took Plan B on the 15th, it should have accounted for the the unprotected s_x on the 14th and began screwing with the hormones. Since Plan B says it may not be effective taking it before having unprotected s_x, it's risky to give a definitive answer since the 18th (3 days later) you didn't use condoms. That doesn't include the fact that you were also using the NuvaRing, so, keep in mind. Personally, when I took Plan B I can agree that it makes your period much worse, with cramps and intensifying things. Plan B did work for me though and is intended to work for after unprotected s_x. So again, I think, it is risky and I apologize that I can't give a definite answer, but I hope my reply helped and calmed some nerve. Remember the state of mind also affects your physical body. Ultimately, if you don't get your period when you expect it, or around then. Take a pregnancy test and see from there. Best of luck! Sincerely, Jen

I'm not sure how many people still look at this. But regardless, I'll give it a try. I had s_x the 17th. We used a condom. I was supposed to get my next period on the 19th. It didn't come. I didn't think much of it since sometimes it's late. We had s_x then on the 23rd, no condom this time though. I took Plan B just a few hours after. I had cramps the 21st, but then only lasted the night. Other than that, I have had no other symptoms, but that's relatively normal since I usually don't get anything before my period. But it's been a week since I should have last gotten my period... I have no one and no idea what to do. Help?

Hmm! S_x in the week to ten days before your period is due is low risk. That does beg the question of when your late period was fixing to come. Plan B in the last half of your cycle often delays menstruation. Since you have no early preg signs my guess is that you just have to wait it out. Run a home preg test once a week if you want some peace of mind, and stock up on your own condoms. GL!

I forgot to mention above that i had taken a Plan B last month, got my period at the normal time, but much lighter. I still haven't gotten a clear sign of anything, but I did just suddenly come down with the flu, but I don't entirely think that has to do with anything. Just being cautious. Thanks so much for your help

Hmm. There's enough PlanB in the picture that guesses about your cycle are questionable. This is not flu season. Is it possible that early preg signs are being mistaken as flu - feelings of nausea, headaches, upset gut, runny nose, weird cramps, slightly elevated temperature? How about sore b___bs, more peeing, hot flashes, acne? A home preg test this Saturday should resolve the issue. GL!

I had, it's almost completely gone now, just about every symptom of the flu including vomiting. Nothing sore, no excess urinating, only hot flashes under too many blankets at night which cant be called hot flashes anyway, and no more acne than usual... I still have a bit of an upset stomach, but I also haven't been able to eat anything other than the BRAT foods for the past 2 days.

Hi there Grandpa Viv! I had unprotected s_x very early on day 9 of cycle (March 29th). Was not for more than 1 minute, and he didn't even come close to ejaculating before he pulled out. He claimed there wasn't even any pre c_m, but I feel like an idiot for not using a condom! I took a generic form of plan b 15 hours later. 8 days later I had spotting for 5 days, which I thought might have been my period. Then on April 18th, I got a heavier bleed that also lasted 5 days, which would have been the time my period would have started. It felt like a period and seemed 100% normal, and I don't feel pregnant but have been scared about the possibility of having "period like bleeding" but still being pregnant - as I've read stories and comments of this happening to some women. I took a hpt on April 18th and it came out completely negative. I think I'm just being paranoid but I don't know if I can completely rule out pregnancy yet!

Hi I had s_x on June 18 one day before I was due to ovulate, but we used a condom and I went and got Plan B the same day. Today is June 24 and I have bleeding the I think may be bleeding from the Plan B.it is 9 days before my period is due, but it seems like it may be my period just lighter. I'm cramping like I usually do and I don't have any other symptoms. My last cycle was from June 7-12. Can you please shed some light? Thank you.

Grandpa Viv - June 24

Babysky, worst case scenario is that you are now experiencing implantation spotting, best case is that it is a PlanB bleed. Most people don't take PlanB if they feel they used the condom correctly - it is usually enough to prevent pregnancy. Nine days before your expected period is on the early side for implantation. I'm leaning toward a PlanB bleed. Test on Independence Day if you are still worried. GL!

Hi Grandpa Viv, my last period started on July 1st and ended on July 6th and i am expecting the next on July 31st. My calendar says that my ovulation day is on the 17th. I had s_x on the 22nd and the condom broke. He pulled out but i am worried that i could be pregnant. I took plan b within an hour. I don't know whether i should be worried about being pregnant or not. Thanks for the help!

Grandpa Viv - July 24

a__suming you did ovulate on the 17th, the egg would have been history by the 22nd. Taking Plan B this late in the cycle might delay your period, but there is little cause to worry about pregnancy. Run a test about August 7th if you are still concerned. Talk to your boyfriend about use-by dates and proper storage of condoms, or buy your own. You should be able to pull a good condom up to your wrist without it breaking.

Regalus - July 31

Hi again grandpa viv, so tomorrow is the day i am supposed to have my period, is there any way to know how delayed my period could possibly be? Like how late might i be. Or is there no way that i can tell? Thank you so much!!!
