Pregnant When To Visit The Doctor

Heya! I just found out I'm preggy a few days ago ( I took one test on thursday, and one on saturday. Both came out positive! ) The father and I are excited but nervous - Birth defects kind of run in his family and I'm worried - I started taking Folic Acid and Iron and Calcium pills ( seperately because I don't have prenatal vitamins yet ).. yes, I'm taking enough of each. BUT. My question is - When should I make an appointment? Should I tell my parents first? Because I really don't know anything about MY family's history and I'd really need my mom there... How to break it to her? I'm scared. LoL.

Family history is very important b/c it will help your doctor determine if any additional tests need to be performed during your pregnancy, other than the normal ones. So you should probably tell your mom within the next few days and make an appointment. Plus, i don't know what your insurance situation is but you are on your parents you will need to find out if it covers your pregnancy. Not all insurances do. As for the prenatal vitamins, you don't need a prescription for them, you can buy them at your local drug store or wal-mart. I always used the Target brand, i think a bottle of 200 was about $8. The bottle will just say Prenatal Vitamins on it. Good luck.

Sure, tell the parents now that you have a positive test. They will get use to the idea pretty quick. "Sit down, mom, I have some good news for you. You're going to have a grandchild" . It's not necessary to visit the doc until you miss a second period, but the folic is important early. Congratulations on this milestone in your life. Good luck!

Thankyou for your replies, and encouragement! Lol. It's still kinda scary.. my boyfriend and I haven't told our parents yet, but I'm going to a teen clinic this week. After the visit, I'm probably going to tell my mom. So if I never return on this site, it means my mom has killed meh. x_x

Oops, I forgot to include my next question LOL. Okay, okay - Is it normal to have hair loss during pregnancy? 'Cause all of a sudden for the past week or two, every shower means hair just coming out. At first it freaked me out, but, it doesn't look like I'm going bald. I'm just losing alota' hair. I dont' get it, I'm taking vitamins and stuff everyday.. ? Oh, plus I'm really sleepy at weird times, like I've never slept in school and recently I found myself dozing in math cla__s. I try to get enough sleep at night, but I'm tired during the day like I didn't sleep at all! This is normal, right?

Well, I have a lot of hair so I've been losing good sized chunks of it in the shower for years now. It's possible that it could be stress related for you. I haven't heard anything like that happening because of pregnancy though. As for sleeping a lot, that could also be stress but it's also a sign of pregnancy. I wouldn't worry too much, maybe you just need to calm down. I have the same problem haha.

I had actually lost hair for the first few months then it stopped. But pp it never stopped, haha!

Its hard to tell your parents, but the easiest way is to just spit it out and get it over with. I just said mom I have to tell you something, Im pregnant. I went to see the doctor the next week. I would tell your mom asap and then make an appointment right away:) Good luck and congratulations.
