Question About Pregnant Teens

I'm 161/2 years old and i think i'm pregnant. I know my mom won't be happy with me if i am, and even now does not want my boyfriend spending the night here. If i am pregnant i want to raise my baby with its father (i had no present father until age 5 and then i was adopted.) I live in Pennsylvania and where i live it is legal for emancipation, but the judges don't rule for it. I heard that in Pa when you give birth to a child you are automatically emancipated...is this true?

not at all. in order to be emancipated ANYWHERE, you have to prove to a judge that you are mentally, financially stabe enough to take care of yourself. its very complicated, and takes a lot of research and time. you have to get a job that is enough to cover rent, bills, car, gas, groceries, insurance etc. and keep up school at the same time or drop out and get your GED. you have to figure out how much your rent would be, how much your bills would be, how much your car would be, hoiw much $ on gas you would spend a month, how much money a month you would spend on groceries, and how much all your diff. types of insurance would be a month(health, car etc.) and still have money left over for diapers, formula, clothes, furniture, toilettries, etc. now, this does not include someone elses income. you cant say your boyfriend will live with you and you will have his income as well. it is based on you, and only you. it also costs alot of money to do it, court fees and stuff. its VERY VERY complicated, and not many people succeed at it. once you get all that information together, you present to a judge that u can do it, and they will grant emancipation or not. but you know what, thats life! you will have to figure all that out soon enough when u are REALLY ready to be on your own. if i were you, i would look into homes for pregnant teens(independant living programs) where u will live there, be taken care of, get all your pre natal care, parenting cla__ses, education, time with u and the babys father, pa__ses to leave and stay out for the weekend, then when u have the baby, they will help you with an apartment. if you want to know more about that, let me know and i will get some information about it. i know people who run many crisis type organizations, and id love to help. just let me know where you are from if you are interested!!! good luck!

nameless...my e mail is [email protected] i dont know how that happened? did she get married?? in oklahoma and a couple other surrounding states, a judge will marry u if u are under 18 and pregnant WITHOUT parents permission. not good info to be givin out i guess, but its true. getting married under 18 is pretty much like emancipation. now dont go run off and get married....but def. e mail me and i will help ya out!

hey guys... im not sure about laws in the states, but i live in canada (in Newfoundland) and i have a friend who was pregnant at 16 and her and her boyfriend got a place together... i have a meeting with a social worker soon to see if we can get social a__sistance since my boyfriend and I are still going to school and dont plan on quitting. my school counciller said more then likely they can help us out in finding an apartment and helping with our expenses, and my boyfriend is looking for a job, we dont wanna totally depend on social a__sistance. so theres no emancipation laws here i dont think... im not sure. it must be different but legally, we can move out of our parents house when we're 16.

jessy - January 4

hey does anyone know any laws about moving in with your boyfriend in PA? im not to up to date with this stuff. im 7 weeks and i really want me and my boyfriend to get an apartment together..if somene could get me some info on that id be very happy..thanks!!

nameless - January 4

Krista...see here i think you have to have parental permission to get married when your a minor. Ugh i wish it was like there...

courtney - January 4

well in the states, you cannot legally move out of your parents house untill u are an adult...18. at 16 years of age, you cant sign a lease, or ANY legal doc_ment without a guardians co-signature. the thing that sucks about emancipation also is that u cant rely on public a__sistance of any kind(food stamps, cash) because it is only temporary. its really a pain in the a__s. i looked WAAYYYYYY into when i was 16, and decided to not even try....

nameless - January 4

Courtney....well signing a lease wouldn't be a problems for me because the boyfriend is 18 so yea. idk it really is a pain in the a__s.......Jessy Im me back

jessy - January 4

hey nameless i think you IM'd me but it closed out somehow so IM me back!! thanks

well then there ya go!! have him put an apt. in his name. will your mom let u move out?? but....you gotta remember....hes 18, your 16...thats illegal. stupid...but it is. my bf is fairly older then me, and it was a big problem where i was first getting care. they wanted all his info....blah blah blah. i told them to f* off pretty much, and changed doctors. some care and report it, some dont. if ya moved out and got an apt. with him, as long as your mom was ok with it, and knew about it and didnt report u as a runaway, then things would b fine im sure. thats what i did. i moved out when i was 17, but ended up right back at home. its hard out there on your own if your not ready and prepared i aint gonna lie. and it will be ALOT harder with a baby. good luck 2 u!!! i got your e mail and im gonna w/b right now!!

Courtney...i'm pretty sure that in Pa it is legal for a 16 and 18 year old to be together. I think its 16 plus 4 years. And plus my mom knows we are dating and having s_x. Do you live in Pa or could that possibly be the law in your state?

court - January 5

yea, lol, i live in texas. they dont f* around with anything. but like i said, my bf was quite a bit older then me. and i think your right, if its more then 3 years....they will probly want to report it.

i'm just turned 16 and pregnant i'm 10 weeks 2moro and my parents dont know yet, i know they'll go mad as like your parents don't want him to stop the night or let me stop at his the night. his parents are different about it tho and already know about everything. they've also sed if my mum and dad go mad then i can move in with them. I live in England and not sure about the laws on moving out but i think it's OK to. I'm due August 4 and 'cos we finnish school at 16 this is my last year so i can still do my exams. theres the summer holidays as wellwhich is the time i'm due so i can go to college september still as my boyfriends mum has agreed to babysit. I guess Im lucky really compared to some teenagers who are pregnant. Why don't you look on search engines and search the law on moving out so you know. good luck tho.
