the past few days i've had a really bad cold. i don't know what medicines i'm allowed to take to help it, so i'm just trying to let it heal on its own. but everyday i wake up and a feel worse. yesterday my throat was so swollen that i couldn't take my daily vitamins. my question is that when you're sick and pregnant, does your baby also get sick? i'm really worried about my kid being malnourished, i want it to be as healthy as it possibly could be.

If you think you have strep throat or pnuemonia (if it develops into more than a normal cold) then you need to go in and get antibiotics. As long as it's jjust a cold your baby is fine. For your throat, try some throat lozengens (I reccomend Sucrets). Unlike regular cough drops they mildly numb your throat. Gargling with salt water also helps. If your nose is stuffy try saline spray or drops, and breathe right nasal stips. They help open up the nasal pa__sages and make you feel more comfortable. If you are in the second trimester you can take PLAIN sudaphed for head congestion, but I'd only take it once a day. You can also take Robitussin DM.

Go to the doctor. That doesn't sound like a normal cold. Just make sure you tell your doctor you are pregnant (if you aren't showing yet) and call your OB to verify that the antibiotics you'll be given are safe during pregnancy (since not all regular doctors know what is safe and what isn't)
